Louisiana and Houston Baptist set to face off in 3 p.m. preseason tilt at Earl K. Long Gym
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team will step onto the court in a public setting for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 18, hosting Houston Baptist in an exhibition match at 3 p.m. inside the historic Earl K. Long Gym.
Admission for the contest, and the entire season, is free. Doors open one hour prior to first serve.
Saturday's exhibition provides an opportunity for fans to get their first glimpse of the squad prior to the home-opening Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic set for Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
Louisiana and HBU will compete using the rally scoring, best-of-five format.
Earl K. Long Gym is located at 500 E. St. Mary Blvd., on Louisiana's main campus. Parking is available in both lots surrounding the gym.
Heading into the 11th season under the guidance of Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot, Louisiana (21-11, 13-3 SBC in 2017) returns five starters from the 2017 season highlighted by three returning All-Sun Belt Conference performers in middle blocker Dree'Ana Abram, libero Sydney Davis and 2017 SBC Freshman of the Year Hali Wisnoskie.
The Ragin' Cajuns have a talented group of eight newcomers debuting in the 2018 season, headlined by transfer setter Gemma Cantone (Incarnate Word) and freshmen Kelsey Bennett (5-11, OH, Allen, Texas), Desiree Johnson (5-11, RS, Forney, Texas) and Tia Smith (6-2, MB, Houston, Texas).
