Louisiana will face two SEC teams, in the same season, for only the third time in school history

LAFAYETTE – Highlighted by two trips to Southeastern Conference teams, Ole Miss on Aug. 17 and Auburn on Aug. 26, Louisiana Soccer released their schedule on Friday for the 2018 season, with the home opener being a matchup against Sam Houston State on Aug. 19.

NEW FACES, SAME TOUGH CAJUNS: Louisiana returns 16 players from the 2017 season, with seven seniors graduating from last season's squad, meaning head coach Scot Wieland had to refresh his roster and he spent the offseason doing just that.

The Cajuns will have 14 newcomers to the squad, including five defenders, three forwards, five midfielders and one goalkeeper.  It's the biggest recruiting class that coach Wieland has put together since taking over the Cajuns in 2005.

FREE ADMISSION: Much like the 2017 season, all matches played at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex will be free admission for any fans who want to attend Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer home matches.

IT'S NOT AN EASY START: The Ragin' Cajuns begin their 2018 season in Oxford, Mississippi when they travel to face the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday, Aug. 17.  It's the fifth time in six seasons that the Ragin' Cajuns have made the trip to Oxford, with last season's matchup in Lafayette being rained out.

Louisiana then opens up the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex with a Sunday, Aug. 19, matchup against Sam Houston State.  The Cajuns will then welcome Northwestern State to Lafayette on Friday, Aug. 24, before hitting the road again.

For the first time since 2007, and only second time in school history, Louisiana will face off with the Auburn Tigers, making the trip to Auburn, Alabama on Sunday, Aug. 26.  It's the third time in program history, the first since 2016, that the Cajuns will face two SEC schools in the same season.

The Cajuns then return to Lafayette for one final non-conference home match when they face the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Friday, Aug. 31 to wrap up the first month of the season.

The first match of September is on Sunday, Sept. 2, when Louisiana makes the short trip west to Lake Charles, La. to face the McNeese Cowgirls in the I-10 rivalry.

A TRIP TO HOUSTON: Louisiana wraps up their non-conference slate by taken part in the Rice Tournament where they'll face-off with Tulsa, on Friday, Sept. 7, and Memphis, on Sunday, Sept. 9.  Both matches will take place in Houston, Texas and it's the Cajuns final weekend of non-conference play before beginning SBC play.

SBC STARTS ON THE ROAD: The Cajuns begin their conference play on the road with a hefty swing starting at Troy on Friday, Sept. 14.  Louisiana will then continue their SBC opening weekend by heading to Statesboro, Georgia to face the Georgia Southern Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 16.

THREE MATCHES AT HOME: After the long road trip to open the season, the Cajuns return to the friendly confines of the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex to open up their home portion of conference play with a three-match stretch, starting with the Texas State Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 21.

Louisiana then host in-state rivals, the ULM Warhawks, on Sunday, Sept. 23, to wrap up their first weekend at home in almost a month.  The final home match of the three-match homestand is on Friday, Sept. 28, when the Arkansas State Red Wolves come into town.

OFF TO THE CAROLINAS: For the first time since 2016 Louisiana will make the long trip east, making the Carolina swing, starting with Coastal Carolina on Friday, Oct. 5.  The Cajuns then head a few hours north to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State on Sunday, Oct. 7, to wrap up the long trip east.

TWO OUT OF THREE AT HOME: Louisiana wraps up the 2018 regular season with two of their final three matches being at home.  The stretch starts with a visit from the Little Rock Trojans on Friday, Oct. 12.

The Cajuns then travel to the five-time defending conference champion South Alabama Jaguars, on Friday, Oct. 19, to wrap up their 2018 regular season road slate.  Louisiana will then make the quick trip back from Mobile, Ala., to play their final game of the regular season in Lafayette.

Doubling as Senior Day, the Cajuns will host the Georgia State Panthers, on Sunday, Oct. 21, to wrap up their 2018 regular season at home.
