Ragin' Cajuns Fall In First Round Of SBC Championships

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Despite their best efforts, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis, seeded second, couldn't pull off the comeback in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championships, losing 4-2 to the seventh seeded Appalachian State Mountaineers.

Louisiana finishes the season 18-10, which is still the best record they've had since the 2014 season. Sophomore Pearse Dolan got a win at No. 5, to finish with a team best 18-4 record in singles while fellow sophomore Jamie Fraser won at No. 6 (12-10) for the Cajuns two lone wins in singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): The Cajuns took the first match in doubles when duo of junior Arthur Libaud and Fraser took down the App State pair of Brea and Stone, 6-0. But the Cajuns would lose the next two matches to drop the doubles point.

At No. 2 Ben Webster and Pavkovich beat Louisiana's pairing of Dolan and freshman Pierce Gilheany, 6-1. Following that App State locked up the doubles point with a win at No. 1, with the pairing of Scott Webster and Bargeron beating sophomore Elio Lago and senior Vlad Kramarov, 6-2, to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Fraser got the Cajuns their first win of the match with a win at No. 6 when he took down Alex Brea, 6-1, 6-2. Fraser came storming back in the second set, winning three straight games after dropping the first game. He rode that momentum to a straight set win to tie the score up at 1-1.

Louisiana then took the lead when at No. 5, Dolan got a straight set win, 6-4, 6-2, over Campbell Stone, to get his 18th win of the season. The win put the Cajuns ahead 2-1, but it was a lead they would relinquish over the next few matches.

App State tied the match up 2-2, when at No. 1 Scott Webster beat Lago in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The Mountaineers then took the lead with a win at No. 2 when Sojka lost to Milo Bargeron, in a three-set battle, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.Â

At No. 3 App State locked up the win when Ben Webster's three-set win over Libaud finished 0-6, 6-1, 6-4. The loss finished the season, but it was a successful season nonetheless for the Cajuns, finishing the season 18-10, which is the best record they've had since 2014.
