SETTING THE SCENE
20th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball enjoys the comforts of home for Easter Weekend as South Alabama visits for a three-game Sun Belt series at Lamson Park.

The series, scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 30-31, begins with a 4 p.m. doubleheader televised by Cox Sports Television on Good Friday and ends with a 1 p.m. single game on Saturday.

Louisiana (20-7, 7-2 Sun Belt) seeks its fourth Sun Belt series win in as many attempts. The squad also seeks to extend their current win streak at Lamson Park which is at six games.

The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a Sun Belt series victory at Troy which featured the team's ninth and 10th come-from-behind wins of the season in a doubleheader sweep last Saturday.

The meeting with South Alabama (18-14, 5-3 Sun Belt) marks the second Sun Belt home series for Louisiana. It's the first of four remaining on the docket (also host Texas State, Georgia Southern, ULM). The Ragin' Cajuns swept Appalachian State in shutout fashion in the SBC home opener March 17-18.

Fans can hear the entire series on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on the ESPN 1420 app. Friday's doubleheader will be broadcast on Cox Sports Television and simulcast on ESPN3 outside of the CST viewing areas.

SERIES HISTORY (Louisiana leads, 28-11)
• Tightly contested series in recent years with Cajuns holding a 12-8 edge over last 20 meetings.
• Louisiana won eight of the previous 11 Sun Belt series (split in 2007, USA won in 2009 and 2013).
• Ragin' Cajuns have an active six-game series win streak. Includes four wins in 2017 season (swept series in Mobile, won SBC Tournament matchup).
• Two programs met for SBC Tournament championship in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
• Series began when South Alabama launched its program in 2007 and joined the Sun Belt.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Infield: The left side is anchored by veteran third baseman Kara Gremillion and sophomore transfer Alissa Dalton (Oklahoma) at shortstop, both preseason All-Sun Belt selections. The duo has combined for 101 assists and only nine errors in a combined 158 chances. On the right side, Kourtney Gremillion (Kara's sister) covers first base while freshman Casidy Chaumont has claimed the starter's role at second base following the season-ending injury to JUCO transfer Brittany Holland.

Outfield: Senior Kelli Martinez, a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, is patrolling left field for the second straight season. Redshirt freshman Aeriyl Mass has received the majority of the starts in center field and continues to anchor the defense in that area. Senior transfer Brittany Rodriguez (Lamar) returned to the right field corner at the Judi Garman Classic and is expected to remain there. Fellow senior transfer Kalyn Watts (Southeastern Louisiana) has utilized her power to work her way into the outfield rotation.

Pitchers: Senior Kylee Jo Trahan is the veteran leader of a staff that includes eight arms. Sophomore Summer Ellyson has turned in several solid starts (includes win over No. 2 Florida, no-hitter) and ranks Top 3 in ERA in the Sun Belt. Freshman Casey Dixon provides an additional option to start a contest and has been teaming with Ellyson to start in Sun Belt series. Carrie Boswell has been the first called up in relief duty in recent weeks. Junior Alison Deville gives the Cajuns a left-handed option out of the bullpen.

Catchers: Returning starter and 2017 All-Sun Belt and NFCA All-Central Region performer Lexie Comeaux leads the group. Freshman Caitlin Garcia and sophomore Beth Ashley have also seen time behind the plate. Expect Comeaux, who started all 55 games in 2017, to resume the primary catcher's role the remainder of the season with Ashley serving as the backup.

NOTEWORTHY
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Ragin' Cajuns have one of the most passionate fan bases in the country and the energy they provide is a huge advantage. Louisiana has drawn above 1,500 for all 14 playing dates thus far.

FAMILIAR SCRIPT?: Louisiana was locked in a pitching battle with Troy last weekend – an 11-inning battle in the opener and 2-1 finale. Could this week be a repeat scenario? The Cajuns are tied for the Sun Belt lead with a 1.96 ERA, while South Alabama is a close third with a 2.42 ERA.

EYES ON THE CIRCLE: The Ragin' Cajuns-Jaguars series features two of the Sun Belt's top frontline starters – Louisiana's Summer Ellyson (9-4, 1.51 ERA) and South Alabama's Devin Brown (11-8, 1.93 ERA). Both teams also have a formidable second option in Casey Dixon (LA) and Alexis Reid (USA).

A RESILIENT BUNCH: The Ragin' Cajuns own 10 come-from-behind wins this season. In both of the road Sun Belt series (Coastal Carolina and Troy), the squad rallied twice from a deficit.

EVERYONE CONTRIBUTES: One glance at the Ragin' Cajuns stats it's clearly evident that anyone can step up at any time. Nine different players have posted double digit hits and the RBI figures are spread even with eight individuals having totals ranging from seven up to 17.

POWER SURGE: The past three weekends has seen the Ragin' Cajuns show signs of increased power being added to the team's repertoire. Louisiana has homered in five of the past eight games.

PROTECTING THE PLATE: Ragin' Cajuns hitters have made opposing pitchers and defenses work for their outs. The squad has 17 outings of three strikeouts or less through 27 games played.

MAKING 'EM EARN IT: Louisiana's pitching staff has limited foes to two runs or less 16 times in 27 outings. Only four times has the opposition exceeded five runs.

MAKING 'EM EARN IT (Part 2): Ragin' Cajuns pitchers have limited the opposition to a .176 batting average. The unit has been stingier in Sun Belt play, with league foes accruing a .137 average.

SUMMER STEPS UP: The Ragin' Cajuns entered the season in search of a lead pitcher after the graduation of Alex Stewart. They've found that in Summer Ellyson. She's delivered a record 20-strikeout performance, defeated No. 2 Florida, pitched a no-hitter and has held foes to three earned runs or less in 12 of 13 starts.

DIXON'S DEVELOPMENT: Key to Louisiana's success has been freshman pitcher Casey Dixon's control in the circle since the beginning of March. She's gone 4-1 with a 1.39 ERA and yielded just 18 hits in 35-1/3 innings pitched this month.

YOUTH IS BEING SERVED: Louisiana has one of the youngest starting lineups in the nation. In the batting order, there are five underclassmen appearing in a starter's role. In the pitching circle, the Ragin' Cajuns have utilized three youngsters which includes two freshmen (Casey Dixon, Carrie Boswell).

QUICK HITS
• Louisiana has won 40 consecutive Sun Belt Conference series (school and SBC record streak). The streak spans the previous four-plus seasons, dating back to a March 2013 sweep of FIU.
• Louisiana leads the Sun Belt Conference in the NCAA's latest release of the 2018 RPI rankings. Coach Gerry Glasco's squad checked in at No. 19 this week.
• Junior Kara Gremillion ranks Top 5 in the Sun Belt Conference with 12 stolen bases – her first season in double digits.
• Brittany Rodriguez displayed her power abilities last weekend at Troy. She posted a team-best four hits in the series which included her first three doubles of the season.
• The Ragin' Cajuns offense collected nine extra base hits in Troy (six doubles, two home runs, one triple). The squad had a season-high five extra baggers in the series opener.
• Louisiana's pitching staff limited Troy to a .140 average. It was the second straight weekend holding the opposition to a sub-.200 average (App State hit .081).
• The Ragin' Cajuns lineup has been creating traffic in recent weeks. The squad has surpassed five hits in 10 of the last 12 outings and drawn multiple walks nine times during the span.
• Alissa Dalton has thrived in the atmosphere at Lamson Park in her debut season. The sophomore transfer (Oklahoma) is batting .431, with just two strikeouts in 69 plate appearances, and has produced 15 RBI in the friendly confines.
• The 5-3 putout is a unique one for Louisiana as it pairs sisters Kara Gremillion (third base) and Kourtney Gremillion (first base). The siblings are one the playing field together for the first time since Spring 2015 at St. Amant High School.
