Brazil, Hrusoci slated to make 2018 outdoor debut for Cajuns
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team returns to action after a two-week break when it travels to San Marcos, Texas to compete in Texas State's Bobcat Invitational at the Bobcat Track and Field Stadium.

Action for the three-day meet begins on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., with the decathlon, heptathlon and discus before resuming on Friday with field events set for 1 p.m. and running events at 5. The final day will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m., with the women's javelin before running events start at 3 p.m.

Louisiana returns to action for the first time since hosting the Louisiana Classics on March 16-17. The Ragin' Cajuns turned in solid performances with Tisay Woodhouse setting a school-record in the women's hammer throw (170-11) and Bartul Basic posting the third-longest throw in the javelin (232-9) in school history.

Lafayette native Mackenzie Marze, ranked No. 3 in the Sun Belt Conference in the women's javelin, recorded the third-longest throw (150-11) in school history for the Ragin' Cajuns with Beau Robinson recorded the fifth-fastest time (9:08.86) in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Sven Glueck and Chandler Mixon will open competition on Thursday in the decathlon for Louisiana with senior Alex Morrow competing in the women's heptathlon. Woodhouse, Richard Delphin and Anthony Taylor will all participate in the discus on Thursday for the Ragin' Cajuns with Delphin and Taylor also competing in the hammer throw on Friday.

The Ragin' Cajuns will also see the debut of indoor All-American sprinter Jeryl Brazil and Alena Hrusoci. Brazil will compete in the both the men's 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay while Hrusoci, who sat out the 2017 season due to injury, will compete in the women's 200-meters and 4x400-meter relay.

Basic, ranked No. 1 in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 8 nationally, leads a group of throwers ranked in the top-six in the Sun Belt Conference. The senior will be joined in the event by Hunter Stelly, ranked No. 3 in the SBC and No. 48 nationally (207-6), along with Sean Bouzigard, who has the sixth-best mark (189-6) in the SBC this spring.

Marze, ranked No. 41 nationally as a freshman, will lead a trio of women's throwers for Louisiana that includes Claire Meyers, ranked No. 5 in the SBC (136-2), and Madison Meche, ranked No. 8 in the league (132-2).

Stanley Limoh and Jonathan Kimutai, ranked No. 2 and No. 4 in the Sun Belt Conference in the men's 800-meter run, will each participate in the 800, the 1,500-meters and the 4x400-meter relays for Louisiana. Hughes will look to improve on his season-best time in the 110-meter hurdles (14.54) set at the Louisiana Classics with Regan Lamaire (10:03.21) and Dylan Heck (10:14.30) each looking to build on their times in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Pole vaulter Kyle Baudoin, ranked No. 4 in the SBC and 32nd nationally, cleared a season-best 16-8 for the Ragin' Cajuns at the Louisiana Classics with Matt Wilson, Mixon and Matthew Standridge all posting season-bests.

Senior Claire Hodges, the school-record holder in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, will look to build on her season-best time (11:05.97) set at the Louisiana Classics with Victoria Wayne looking to improve on her performance in the 400-meter hurdles.

Taylor Walker, ranked fifth in the SBC in the women's triple jump, will also compete in the long jump for Louisiana with Frankie Griffin (high jump), Alexa Johnson (pole vault) and Lindsay Darby (triple jump) all ranked in the top-10 in their respective events.
