21st-Ranked Ragin' Cajuns Take Two to Start Troy Series

TROY, Ala. – 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball claimed an extra innings marathon in the opener and rallied from a five-run deficit in the nightcap to collect a 4-2 (11 inn.), 8-7 doubleheader sweep of Troy on Saturday.
Beth Ashley provided the tie-breaking run in Game 1 with a two-out, run-scoring double in the 11th inning and Aeriyl Mass tripled her home for insurance as Louisiana (20-6, 7-1 Sun Belt) broke a stalemate with Troy (17-15, 3-5 Sun Belt) that existed since the sixth inning.
The Ragin' Cajuns, who fell behind 7-2 after two innings in Game 2, completed their rally when Lexie Comeaux blasted a three-run, go-ahead home run in the sixth inning.
The sweep extended the Ragin' Cajuns current winning streak to seven games.
Louisiana picked up its 40th consecutive Sun Belt Conference series victory dating back to March 2013.

THE BASICS OF GAME 1
Summer Ellyson limited Troy to four hits and struck out 12 in a complete game effort. She held the Trojans scoreless over their final eight at bats after the hosts opened a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
The Ragin' Cajuns hitters cranked out five extra base hits, led by two doubles that were part of Alissa Dalton's 3-for-5 performance at the plate.
Ashley led the way with two RBI, providing the game-tying tally in the sixth inning and the winning run in the 11th inning.
Kelli Martinez was 2-for-4 at the plate with the first of her two singles jumpstarting the Louisiana rally in the fifth inning. After Brittany Rodriguez reached on an error, Martinez broke for third on a steal attempt and the throw was off target allowing her to score cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Kourtney Gremillion set the stage for Ashley's grounder that evened the score and forced extra innings with a single through the right side in the sixth inning that moved pinch runner Jolie Readeaux to third base.
Ellyson thwarted the Trojans' lone scoring attempt in extra innings. With one out and a runner at third in the ninth inning, she checked the runner back to the bag on a grounder and notched a strikeout to retire the side.
THE BASICS OF GAME 2
Comeaux generated a team-leading four RBI boosted by her three-run fireworks in the sixth inning. Ashley accounted for two RBI, both off a home run in the third inning that began Louisiana's string of six straight unanswered to finish game.
Casey Dixon re-entered the circle in the fifth inning and retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced to collect the win. Carrie Boswell tossed 2-1/3 scoreless innings of relief while Dixon regrouped in the bullpen after she was victimized by six unearned runs over the first two frames.
Louisiana erased an early 2-0 deficit in the second inning as runs scored on a Casidy Chaumont sacrifice fly and Martinez grounder.
The Trojans answered in the bottom half with a run crossing on a double play attempt and an error on that play leading to an additional four runs for a 7-2 edge.
Ashley started the Louisiana rally with her two-run home run in the third inning that provided an answer to the Trojans uprising. Boswell's key relief stint kept Troy within reach.
The Trojans decision to work around Dalton in the sixth inning brought the winning run to the plate. Comeaux made the hosts pay for the choice as she drove the first pitch she saw over the wall in left center field.
