Galka Shines At UTSA Futures Tournament For @RaginCajunsMT

HOUSTON – Freshman Jan Galka continued to have a great fall for Louisiana Men's Tennis, taking down an International Tennis Federation ranked opponent, to highlight a long run in the Singles Qualifying Round at the 2018 USTA Futures Tournament in Houston, Texas, which started on Saturday, Oct. 6 and wrapped up for the Ragin' Cajuns on Monday, Oct. 8.
GALKA SHOWS UP: Galka started his weekend with a matchup against Pranav Kumar in the first round of Singles Qualifying Round. Galka won the match in straight sets, but the first set was a bit of a battle for Galka, going to a tie-breaker before Galka came away with a 7-6(6) win.
In the second set Galka maintained control of the set to win the second set, 6-4, and the match 7-6(6), 6-4 to move into the second round of the qualifying draw. In that round Galka faced off with Chenhe Li, who carried into the match an ITF ranking of 1,215, with a spot in the final round of the qualifying draw on the line.
Galka came out on fire and controlled the match from start to finish, with the first set being the only competitive portion of the match. Galka maintained his composure to come away with a 7-5 first set win, before slamming the door shut on Li with a 6-2 win to take the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
Unfortunately, Galka would fall in straight sets to Alan Fierros, 6-1, 6-3. But Galka had proven once again that he can play with some of the best in the world as his solid fall continued.
FALL SUCCESS: So far this fall Galka has been rolling, having played in both the ITA All-American Championships and the USTA Futures Tournament, winning several matches at both, taking down top competition. Between the two tournament's Galka has gone 5-2, making deep runs in the qualifying draws for both tournaments.
