Louisiana set for round two of Sun Belt division play, starting with Texas State and UT Arlington

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball heads west to Texas on Thursday for the final road trip of the regular season, facing Texas State and UT Arlington in Sun Belt Conference rematches.

The Ragin' Cajuns (12-12, 4-6 Sun Belt) meet the Bobcats on Friday in San Marcos at Strahan Arena, then depart on Saturday for a matchup with the Mavericks at College Park Center in Arlington.

Both matches are set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Louisiana faced both of the weekend foes during opening weekend of Sun Belt play. The Ragin' Cajuns slowed the UTA offense after the opening set to claim a four-set triumph on Sept. 21 while Texas State utilized a .338 match hitting percentage to win in four sets on Sept. 23.

The Ragin' Cajuns are seeking to build off a dominant performance last weekend – .325 hitting percentage, 13.71 kills per set and 19.14 digs per set – which led to the team's first Sun Belt sweep of the season during the Georgia State-Georgia Southern homestand.

The Ragin' Cajuns added a talented group of eight newcomers headlined by freshmen Kelsey Bennett (5-11, OH, Allen, Texas) and Desiree Johnson (5-11, RS, Forney, Texas) who have been inserted into the rotation. Louisiana is utilizing a 6-2 offense for the first time in the Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot era with setters Avery Breaux and Milayne Danna directing the offense.

COACH MAZEITIS-FONTENOT'S THOUGHTS
On approach for the remainder of the regular season
"What I keep telling the team is we have to look at the match ahead of us, one at a time. That's it. We're playing Texas State on Friday, so that's where our focus began this week."

On keys for success on the road
"If we can manufacture what we do at home – specifically our intensity – and bring that into the locker room and on the court at Texas State and UT Arlington, then it should be a fun weekend."

On the spark in defense during last week's sweep
"The girls are showing ownership. We picked up some balls last weekend that we haven't been able to in practice, so that part was wonderful. It's about ownership and drive. That's what defense is for us."

UP NEXT
Louisiana faces in-state Sun Belt Conference foe ULM in a home-and-home weekend beginning on Friday, Nov. 2 in a 6:30 p.m. match at Earl K. Long Gym. The two teams then head to Monroe on Sunday, Nov. 4 to wrap up the weekend in a 2 p.m. contest at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
