    LOUISIANA GAME NOTES
    THE MATCHUP
  • Louisiana Football, for the second straight season and third time in four years, heads to Boone, N.C. to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a Sun Belt Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 20.
    LOUISIANA VS. APPALACHIAN STATE STATE
  • Louisiana and Appalachian State meet for the fifth time in history when Louisiana makes its second-straight trip up to Boone, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
  • It is the fifth-straight season that the Cajuns will play Appalachian State and the third time in the past four seasons.
    A RAGIN' CAJUNS VICTORY WOULD
  • Give Louisiana its third-straight win for the first time since 2014 when Louisiana ripped off four-straight wins.
  • Be the first-ever win over Appalachian State in program history and Louisiana's first win in the Eastern Time Zone since Nov. 10, 2016.
    HISTORIC NUMBERS
  • Louisiana could not be stopped on the offensive side of the ball in the Ragin' Cajuns' 66-38 Homecoming win over New Mexico State (Oct. 13), racking up a school record 759 yards of total offense.
  • The total number of offense yards broke a decade-old record of 728 yards set against ULM on Oct. 4, 2008.
  • Louisiana's offensive numbers was the third-best total gained by any team in the FBS so far this season.
  • The Cajuns scored 66 points, in its dominating win against New Mexico State, and that is the largest point total the Cajuns have scored since putting up 70 against Nicholls State in 2013.  More importantly, the 66 points were the most that Louisiana has ever scored against an FBS team in the modern area, with Nicholls State being a member of the FCS.
  • Another school record set by Louisiana were the 37 first downs that the Cajuns got throughout the game against New Mexico State, breaking the previous record of 33, set three times, last against Middle Tennessee in 2003.
NUNEZ CHARGES THE CAJUN FIELD AIR
  • Senior quarterback Andre Nunez had a career game in Louisiana's 66-38 win over New Mexico State on Oct. 13, throwing for 315 yards on 19-for-25 passing with five touchdown passes.
  • Nunez's five touchdown passes tied a school record set by Jake Delhomme in 1996, Delhomme and Nunez are the only two quarterbacks in school history to reach the five TD mark.
  • The performance by Nunez was the 22nd-best passing performance in school history, and it was the 34th time that a quarterback has thrown for at least 300 yards in a game for Louisiana.
  • According to ESPN's QBR rating, Nunez had the third-best QBR in the FBS and his passing efficiency of 247.8 was the second-best in the FBS during the past weekend and the 10th-best by any quarterback this season.
  • When looking at Nunez's numbers in the conference, he threw for the most yards in the conference this past weekend and he became only the fifth quarterback in the conference to throw for at least 300 yards this season.  The five touchdown passes were the most by a quarterback in the Sun Belt this past weekend and the second most thrown by a quarterback in the conference this season.
NUNEZ RACKS UP THE WEEKLY HONORS
  • Nunez's great performance earned him Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors following the Cajuns win against New Mexico State (Oct. 13), becoming the first quarterback to win SBC Offensive Player of the Week honors since Jalen Nixon was given the honor on Oct. 12, 2015.
  • The SBC Offensive Player of the Week honor was not the only award that Nunez got following his great performance on Homecoming, Nunez was named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list, joining Joe Burrow (Louisiana State); Jarrett Guarantano (Tennessee); Tyler Huntley (Utah); Jordan Love (Utah State); James Morgan (FIU); Brock Purdy (Iowa State) and Nate Stanley (Iowa) and he received honorable mention on the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of Week 7 award list and was named one of the ?????Eight Manning Award Stars of the Week.
    BACK-TO-BACK SBC OFFENSIVE POTW
  • For the first time since 2008, Louisiana has had a player named Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, with sophomore running back Elijah Mitchell winning the honor on Oct. 8.
  • In 2008, Tyrell Fenroy was named SBC Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks (Sept. 29 - Oct. 6), his honor was followed up by Jason Chery's honor the following week (Oct. 13) giving Louisiana three-straight SBC Offensive Players of the Week.
    MITCHELL KEEPS RAGIN'
  • Sophomore running back Elijah Mitchell was once again a force to be dealt with, breaking long runs throughout Louisiana's game against New Mexico State (Oct. 13) finishing with 107 yards and three touchdowns on 12 attempts.
  • It was the second-straight game that Mitchell has run for at least 100 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground over the past two weeks.
  • When factoring in Mitchell's 191 yards on 21 attempts the previous week in San Marcos, Texas at Texas State (Oct. 6), Mitchell has run for 298 yards and scored six touchdowns on 32 attempts.
OCTOBER IS THE MONTH OF ELIJAH
  • Over the past two games in the month of October, Mitchell has ranked among some of the best running backs in the country, collecting 298 yards, which is the sixth-most over the past two games in the FBS.
  • Mitchell ranks 13th in the FBS in yards per game, 149.0 and his six touchdowns over the past two games are the second most scored by any running back in the nation so far in the month of October.
  • Mitchell's month began with the 14th-best performance on the ground in Louisiana history, when Mitchell rumbled for 191 yards at Texas State (Oct. 6) tying Brian Mitchell's 191-yard performance on the ground at Tulane on Nov. 1, 1986.
  • It was the seventh-ranked performance during that week in the FBS, and still sits as the 24th-best performance so far this season in the FBS and it was the best performance in any game by a member of the Sun Belt so far this season.
  LOUISIANA RUSHES WITH THE BEST
  • So far this season, Louisiana has racked up 1,489 yards on the ground averaging 248.2 rushing yards per game.  That puts the Cajuns in the top-15 among the FBS, ranking Louisiana's rushing attack at 13th in both total rushing yards and rushing yards per game.
  • During the month of October, over the previous two games, Louisiana has rushed for 671 yards which gives them the second-most rushing yards in the FBS over the last two games.  The Cajuns are averaging 335.5 yards per game which is the fifth-best in the nation over that same two game stretch.
