Ragin' Cajuns Lose At #21 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In their 2018 season opener, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team lost, 4-0, to the #21 Florida State Seminoles in the first round of the 2018 FSU Spring Invitational at the FSU Indoor Tennis Courts.

The loss means the Cajuns begin the season 0-1, and they'll await the winner of the Georgia State and Mercer match. That match will take place on Sunday starting at 9:00 a.m. As for Florida State, they've won their fourth straight match and improve to 4-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): At the No. 3, sophomore Jamie Fraser took on the No. 24 ranked Lucas Poullian and Poullian handled Fraser in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to start things off for FSU. Junior Arthur Libaud took on Aziz Dougaz at the No. 2 and Dougaz gave FSU another win beating Libaud in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Sophomore Elio Lago took on FSU's Guy Iradukunda, ranked No. 22 in the nation, at the No. 1 and Lago lost that in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Lago did get some points in the second set but Iradukunda was a bit too much for the Cajuns' sophomore as he finished the second set off to get the win.

With a 3-0 lead FSU wrapped up the match at the No. 5 when Louisiana sophomore Pearse Dolan fell to FSU's Terrell Whitehurst in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Dolan put up a fight in the second set forcing Whitehurst to score seven to finish of Dolan and the Cajuns.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAGIN' CAJUNS: Louisiana will play two matches tomorrow, the first being against either Georgia State or Mercer, depending on the result of that match and Sunday's match will start at 9 a.m. CST. The Cajuns will then play in either the fifth or seventh place match, with the fifth-place match starting at 3:30 p.m. CST and the seventh-place match starting at 5:30 p.m. Both matches will be played with the singles first format.
