Field events begin at 9 a.m.

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete in the 2017 LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Stadium.
 
Field events begin at 9 a.m., with the women's discus with the morning session of running events, beginning with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, starting at 9 a.m. The afternoon session of running events begins at 1:20 p.m., with the women's 4x100-meter relay.

Louisiana joins host LSU in the meet that also includes Akron, Alcorn State, Barton County Community College, Brown University, Clemson, Hinds Community College, ULM, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Meridian Community College, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Southern, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas and Tulane.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns had a small contingent of athletes compete last week during action at the Mt. SAC Relays, the Beach Invitational and the South Alabama Invitational.
 
Matt Rice, the Sun Belt Conference's top-ranked runner in the men's 1,500-meters, will compete for Louisiana and will join teammate Stanley Limoh in the men's 800-meters, where the pair are ranked in the top-5 in the league. Hanoj Carter, who is ranked sixth in the SBC in both the men's 100- and 200-meter dash, will compete in both events for the Ragin' Cajuns
 
Freshman Damon Guidry, ranked first in the SBC in the men's high jump, cleared 7-0 ¼ earlier this season for the Ragin' Cajuns with Bartul Basic and Hunter Stelly, the top two athletes in the men's javelin, set to compete.
 
Senior Kayla Thompson, ranked in the top-10 in the Sun Belt Conference in the women's 100- and 200-meters, will look to improve her time for Louisiana.
 
Lindsay LaGarde (women's 1,500-meters) and Erica Stewart (women's 100-meters) will also compete for the Ragin' Cajuns with Alexa Johnson (women's pole vault), Taylor Walker (women's triple jump), Tamela Young (women's shot put), Claire Meyers (women's javelin), Chelcie Sonnier (women's javelin) and Amie Leitko (women's hammer throw) all ranked among the SBC top-10 in their respective events.
