Ragin' Cajuns Drop Home Opener To Cowgirls, 4-0

Louisiana hosts A&M-Corpus Christi in Friday contest
LAFAYETTE — McNeese State clinched the doubles point early on and never looked back, winning three singles matches to claim a 4-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team in Wednesday's home opener at Cajun Courts.
The Cowgirls (4-6) quickly picked up the doubles point behind solid performances at No. 2 and 3, but Louisiana (1-5) did not go down as easily in singles play.
Hannah Brett got the Cowgirls off to a good start, defeating Kelly Drew 6-0, 6-1 on Court 3. But Alexandra Way, Abby Johnson, and Carla Ortega tried to rally the Cajuns, all winning the first set in their respective matches on courts 2, 4, and 5.
After that, however, it was McNeese State, as it went on to win every other set.
Charoline Erlandsson defeated Louisiana's Yasmine Ansari 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 to extend the lead to 3-0, and then at No. 1, Giovanna Fioretti clinched the win for McNeese State with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Lucile Delabarre.
Louisiana will return to action on Friday when it faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 1:30 p.m. match at Cajun Courts. The match is the first of a men's and women's doubleheader with the Ragin' Cajuns men's team facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:30 p.m. Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns tennis matches is free.
