Delabarre, Drew give No. 8 doubles team fits early on; Cajuns to host McNeese on Feb. 21
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Kelly Drew and Lucile Delabarre built an early 3-1 lead at No. 1 doubles against the eighth-ranked tandem of Jasmine Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux, but the Bulldogs rallied for a 6-3 win to help lift No. 24-ranked Mississippi State to a 7-0 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team on Saturday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center.
Mississippi State (3-1) claimed the doubles point against Louisiana (1-4) before claiming all six singles contests against the Ragin' Cajuns. Louisiana's Carla Ortega claimed the opening set against MSU's Jennifer Brown at No. 6 singles before Brown rallied for a three-set 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 decision.
Lee, ranked No. 44 nationally by the ITA, earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Delabarre at No. 1 singles to give Mississippi State a 2-0 lead before Sara Lizariturry defeated Louisiana's India Shiaelis at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0.
The Bulldogs clinched the match at No. 4 singles when Anastasia Rentouli picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Louisiana's Abby Johnson. Rioux earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kelly Drew at No. 3 before Madison Harrison posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alexandra Way at No. 2.
Louisiana will return to action on Feb. 21 when it officially opens its home schedule against in-state foe McNeese State in a 3:30 p.m. match at Cajun Courts.
