Cajuns Hosting Second Annual Battle On The Bayou

10/5/2017 1:00:00 PM | Men's Tennis

LAFAYETTE – This weekend, starting on Friday Oct. 6 and ending on Saturday Oct. 7, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will return to Cajun Courts to host the second annual Battle on the Bayou which will bring together six great schools, including Louisiana, for a weekend of top notch tennis.

Making the trip to Lafayette will be Southern Miss., Prairie View A&M, Xavier University of Louisiana, Alcorn State and Loyola University New Orleans to complete the field of competition.

It's the second weekend the Cajuns will see the men from Southern Miss., as they made the trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi last weekend for the Southern Miss. Invitational.

Brining in top talent is Xavier, as they finished the previous season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA rankings and look to provide the Cajuns with top competition and a solid challenge whenever the two schools match up.

Cajuns junior Arthur Libaud will enter the weekend as the flight one No. 1 seed in singles and sophomore Elio Lago is seeded at No. 1 in the flight two singles.

The tournament will consist of two flights of singles and one flight of doubles with back draws for both the doubles and singles filling up through the weekend.

Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with two rounds of doubles before switching over to singles starting with round one at 11 a.m. and round two slated to start at 3 p.m.

"This is a great tournament for all of our guys to play in," said head coach Mark Jeffrey.  "It's not as intense as the John Breaux Cajun Classic was, since it's a bit more laid back, but it's great for the guys to practice what they have been working on.

"I am really looking forward to the weekend to see who can follow the process of what we have been working on."
