Ragin' Cajuns Earn ITA All-Academic Team Award For Sixth Straight Year

Cajuns posted highest team GPA in school history during Spring 2016 semester
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award for the sixth consecutive season, head coach Mark Jeffrey announced on Tuesday.
Louisiana, which posted a 17-11 record on the court last season, had four players - Will Huyton, Vlad Kramarov, Michael Kritzinger and Jake Wynan – named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list for posting a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2015-16 season.
During the spring 2016 semester, the men's tennis team marked its 12th straight semester of recording a team GPA of 3.0 or higher and recorded its highest GPA (3.571) in school history.
"When I first took over the program back in 2008, we had a team GPA of 2.75," Jeffrey said. "It took us three years to get student-athletes to buy into the fact that success is not success without academics.
"For the last six years our student-athletes are very driven and see the big picture beyond tennis, and that is a credit to them. This year, a special thank you goes out to (academic counselor) Dustin Daigle who has done a tremendous job with our team."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
