Duo becomes first Cajuns since 2011 to earn All-SBC honors
NEW ORLEANS – Senior Melissa Burckhartt (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Kelly Drew (Auckland, New Zealand) became the first members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team to earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors since 2011 when the tandem was named on Thursday to the second team in doubles in a release by the league office.
The duo compiled a 10-3 record at No. 1 doubles for Louisiana, which was highlighted by a 6-4 win over Joanna Nalborska and Bianca Moldovan of No. 67-ranked North Carolina State on Feb. 13.
Burckhartt and Drew, the first Ragin' Cajuns to claim All-SBC honors since Julie Mazinova (first-team singles) in 2011, posted a 3-1 record against Sun Belt Conference opponents during the spring for Louisiana (11-9) and have won four straight matches heading into Friday's quarterfinal match against third-seeded UT Arlington (16-4).
