Louisiana set to face Bulldogs in non-conference hoops action

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team looks to extend its eight-game win streak on Wednesday when opens a two-game roadtrip in Athens, Ga., against SEC opponent Georgia in a televised game at Stegeman Coliseum.
 
Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network and can be heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT 107.9-FM and ESPN 1420-AM, and on the Radio Pup app.
 
Louisiana (8-2), off to its best 10-game start since posting an identical 8-2 record in 1993-94, claimed its eighth straight victory last Saturday with an 91-83 win over in-state rival Louisiana Tech at the Cajundome. Bryce Washington posted his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Ragin' Cajuns.
 
Frank Bartley added 18 points for Louisiana with Jay Wright and Justin Miller scoring 14 each and P.J. Hardy 11. The Ragin' Cajuns stormed out to a 26-6 lead and never trailed in improving to 6-0 at home.
 
Bartley leads Louisiana – and is second in the Sun Belt Conference – in scoring at 19.1 points per game with Washington the lone SBC player to average a double-double with 15.3 points and 11.2 rebounds. Wright, a native of Rincon, Ga., averages 14.5 points per game for Louisiana and leads the SBC with 2.4 steals per contest.

• Louisiana is ranked seventh in the nation in scoring offense (90.1), eighth in rebound margin (+10.8), sixth in free throw attempts (295), 18th in field goal percentage (.500) and 17th in free throws made (200).
 
• Louisiana's current eight-game winning streak is currently tied with Baylor, Duke and South Carolina for the seventh-longest among Division I schools. (Villanova with a 16-game win streak [through Dec. 11] dating back to last season).
 
• Tonight's game against Georgia is the third meeting overall between the schools (the previous two games were played when Louisiana was formally known as Southwestern Louisiana). The first meeting between the schools was on Nov. 22, 1985 when Georgia earned a 78-75 victory over then-USL in the first-ever game in the Cajundome.

• Louisiana will close out its two-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 17) at former Sun Belt Conference rival New Orleans in a 2 p.m. contest at Lakefront Arena. The game is part of a basketball/football doubleheader for Ragin' Cajuns fans with the Louisiana football team competing against Southern Miss in the 2016 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome (8 p.m. kickoff).
