Cajuns officially open home slate with first of three games at Blackham
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team officially opens its 2016-17 home schedule on Thursday when it faces Panhandle (Okla.) State at Blackham Coliseum.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT-FM 107.9 and ESPN 1420 AM, and worldwide on RadioPup. Live video and live statistics are available at RaginCajuns.com
Louisiana (0-2), which will play six of its next eight games on its home floor, plays the first of three regular-season home games at historic Blackham Coliseum – its home from 1950-84 – before returning to the Cajundome to face in-state opponent Nicholls State on Dec. 1.
The Ragin' Cajuns dropped a wild 84-83 contest at Montana State on Monday as Frank Bartley scored a career-high 29 points, including six 3-pointers. Jay Wright scored a season-high 14 points for Louisiana with Bryce Washington (12) and freshman Justin Miller (11) each scoring in double figures.
Miller leads Louisiana in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game, with Bartley (15.5), Washington (14.0) and Wright (10.0) next in the scoring column. Washington paces the Ragin' Cajuns on the boards, averaging 9.0 per contest with Johnathan Stove pulling down 6.0 rebounds  per game.
Panhandle State (2-1), a Division II school from the Heartland Conference, claimed a 100-75 win over Barclay College in its home opener on Tuesday in Goodwell, Okla. The Aggies, who will also face Sun Belt Conference opponent Texas State on Dec. 1, opened the season with a split at Western New Mexico last weekend.
Devonta Brooks is averaging 16.0 points to lead the Aggies in scoring with Jace Kerr (15.7), Malcolm Glanville (14.3), Jake Regier (14.3) and Riyadh Asad (12.0) following in the scoring column.
Louisiana will return to action on Monday (Nov. 21) when it faces Delaware State in a 7 p.m. contest at Blackham Coliseum. The game is part of the six-team Hardwood Showcase that is being played at campus sites through Nov. 27. Louisiana is joined in the event by Montana State, Delaware State, James Madison, Texas Southern and Rice.
