Fifth-rated prospect in Louisiana to join Cajuns in 2017-18

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced that Cedric Russell (Alexandria, La.), one of the top-rated players in the state of Louisiana, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Ragin' Cajuns beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Russell, a three-star prospect and rated No. 5 in the state of Louisiana by ESPN.com, averaged 23.1 points per game as a junior at perennial Class 3A power Peabody Magnet High School. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound combo guard shot 52 percent from the floor last season while helping the Warhorses back the Louisiana Boy's Top 28 for the first time in three seasons.

"He's a combo guard who was one of the best shooters in the summer circuit and is playing for a legendary coach in Charles Smith and a great program in Peabody Magnet High School," Marlin said. "We're excited that Cedric is going to enjoying our family next year and he will really help us stretch the defense."

Russell was named a finalist for the All-Cenla boy's basketball MVP award and last season, and was a second-team selection on the LSWA All-State Class 3A team.
