Â
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team continues its fall slate this weekend as the squad heads east on I-10 for the David Toms Intercollegiate hosted at the par-72, 7,220-yard University Club.
Â
Play gets underway on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start for the first round, while the second round will take place immediately following the completion of the morning round. The third and final round is scheduled for a shotgun start on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Â
"It's nice to be back on the road and competing in the David Toms Intercollegiate," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This is our third event of the fall, and will be a very demanding test. This course is great shape, long and difficult. LSU will be hosting an NCAA Regional here in the spring and will be a great opportunity for our team to compete on a challenging venue.
Â
"Last time out we had some disappointments with guys playing with fear and lack of urgency. That can't happen this week, and I fully expect this team to compete for 54 holes. We look forward to the challenge of the next few days."
Â
Host LSU along with Central Arkansas, DePaul, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Navy, North Texas, Pennsylvania, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Illinois, ULM and Western Carolina make up the 14-team field.
Â
The Cajuns have had recent success at the David Toms Intercollegiate finishing top 5 in two of the last three years including a fifth place finish a year ago.
Â
Senior Fernando Cruz Valle has placed in the top 25 in all three years at the event with two top 10 finishes. Cruz Valle's best finish at the David Toms Intercollege came in the fall of 2013 when he finished in a tie for third with a 54-hole score of 1-under par.
Â
Ragnar Gardarsson, Triston Elston, Aron Juliusson and Thomas Strandemo join Cruz Valle in the lineup. Strandemo is making his first appearance for the Ragin' Cajuns in over a year and also has a top 25 finish at the event placing in a tie for 15th in 2013. Sophomore Grant Welch will also see action playing as an individual.
Â
Louisiana is paired with LSU and Louisiana Tech for the first two rounds of the David Toms Intercollegiate. Live scoring for the event is available on Golfstat.com.
Â
Following the David Toms Intercollegiate, the Cajuns head to Princeville, Hawaii for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
