LUBBOCK, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team begins its 2015 season competing in the Texas Tech Invitational Friday-Saturday, Aug. 28-29 at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
The Ragin' Cajuns open tournament play on Friday meeting Houston at 1:30 p.m., and host-Texas Tech at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the squad completes its stay in Lubbock with a matchup against Utah State at 1:30 p.m.
Head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot begins her eighth season at Louisiana. She has led the Ragin' Cajuns on a steady climb upward since she arrived in 2008, with last season's 20-win campaign being the latest benchmark.
Seeking to build on last season's 20-13 finish, the Ragin' Cajuns will lean on several new faces. The 2015 roster includes just four upperclassmen, out of 18 players total, and features eight newcomers.
Preseason camp featured battles for starting positions and Mazeitis-Fontenot is hoping to have a clearer picture moving forward after the weekend is complete.
"My expectation is to see growth, to see people to step up and own their positions," Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "Right now our starters are kind of fluid. My hope is that by next weekend we will have our lineup set.
"Everyone is stepping on the court this weekend for the first time," Mazeitis-Fontenot added. "Everyone has new kids starting, so the first weekend out is always a lot of fun."
Following the Texas Tech Invitational, the Ragin' Cajuns visit Northwestern State for a 7 p.m., match on Tuesday, Sept. 1 then open the home portion of the 2015 schedule hosting the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic Friday-Saturday, Sept. 4-5 at Earl K. Long Gym.

Four-year starter Caitlyn Auxilien, who finished her career third all-time in program history with 1,784 digs, completed her eligibility last season. Sophomore Shelby Romero and freshmen Sydney Davis, Hannah Henry and Danni Duck are vying for the libero jersey.
WELCOME ABOARD: Associate head coach Jenny Andrew and assistant coach Trey Cruz make their Cajuns debut at Texas Tech.
