LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team signed two more players to a national letter of intent for the 2016 season with the addition of infielders Brad Antchak (Delta, British Columbia, Canada) and Alex Pinero (Miami, Fla.), the program announced on Tuesday.

Antchak and Pinero join Donald Comeaux (Maurice, La.), Ishmael Edwards (Tomball, Texas), Hogan Harris (Lafayette, La.), Ridge Heisler (Mangham, La.), Cameron Horton (Bossier City, La.),Hunter Kasuls (Richmond, Texas), Nick Lee (Longville, La.), Dylon Poncho (Elton, La.), Ryne Ray (Bossier, La.), Johnny Rizer (Cypress, Texas) and Steven Sensley (Baton Rouge, La.) on the 13-man 2016 signing class.

"Both of these guys give us some age and maturity to go along with what we have returning and the incoming signing class," associate head coach Anthony Babineaux said. "They both shore up the class coming in, which we feel is one of the best classes they we have brought in in a very long time.

"We are going to have a lot of shortstops in the program. Shortstops are typically better athletes and can move around. Joe Robbins was a true shortstop coming in, and now he is one of our better third basemen and centerfielders. We like having those shortstops that can come in and be versatile and move around."

Antchak, a 6-foot shortstop, comes to the Cajuns from Northeastern Oklahoma where he hit .364 in 44 games with 13 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 55 RBI. Antchak, a 39th round selection by the Houston Astros in the 2014 MLB Draft, was named to NJCAA All-Region 2 first team and received the Golden Glove Award.

As a freshman at NEO, Antchak was notched to the NJCAA All-Region 2 second team and was tabbed to the All-Region 2 tournament team. Prior to attending NEO, Antchak earned the 2013 BCPBL Gold Glove award while playing for North Delta. Antchak helped guide the Blue Jays to a BCPBL Championship in 2011.

"Brad is a physical shortstop who hit 10 home runs this past year and drove in almost 60 runs," Babineaux said. "He's a guy that can stay at the shortstop position, but he can also move if needed. He is very athletic and has good speed."

Pinero, a 6-2 third baseman, joins Louisiana from Pensacola State College. A native of Miami, Fla., Pinero posted a .327 average in 2015 to go with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 27 RBI in 45 games for the Pirates. Pinero earned NJCAA All-Region 8 second team honors as a sophomore with the club.

At Coral Gables High School, Pinero was named to the Class 5A-8A Herald First Team All-Dade County after recording a .432 batting average as a senior.

"Alex is a very skilled defender at third base," Babineaux added. "He has great hands and good feet. He's a physical type player with seven home runs and 30 RBI. He can move as well, and gives us another solid player in the infield."
