LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis coach Mark Jeffrey earned a first-place finish after competing at the 29th annual Senior Cup Team Championships last weekend in Huntsville, Ala.

Playing at No. 1 singles in the Men's 45s Division for the Louisiana team, Jeffrey claimed all three singles matches in helping the Louisiana team claim its first-ever title in the division. Jeffrey, who recently completed his seventh season as head coach of the Ragin' Cajuns, was joined on the Men's 45s team by Jason Noonan (Baton Rouge), Ashley Rhoney (Lafayette), and Ged Schwing (Baton Rouge).

"This was a great result for the Louisiana team," Jeffrey said. "I really enjoyed playing with and catching up with fellow players that I hadn't seen in a long time. All the guys really got behind each other, so I am really glad that I was able to have this experience with the guys. Special thanks goes out to (team captain) Drew Meyers who helped put this all together."

The weekend was comprised of more than 300 players from nine states in the Southern Section in team competition for men and women in the 35, 45, 55, 65, and 75 age categories with a team match format of two singles and one doubles.  The players in the field included former collegiate All-Americans, NCAA champions, and professional players. Each state vied for a chance at the Mildred Southern Cup, Gil Stacy Cup, and the men and women's overall scoring title.
