TROY, Ala. – Junior shortstop Blake Trahan was named the Player of the Year and freshman left-hander Gunner Leger was named the Freshman of the Year as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team landed six student-athletes on the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference Baseball teams, the league office announced on Tuesday evening.

"It's good to have your team recognized by the other coaches in the league," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "It's a good reward for these guys who have played well for an entire season. When you can pull the Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year that's a big plus for our program. But at the end of the day, everyone will tell you the same thing, that individual awards are good but what we are going for is the conference tournament championship trophy."

Trahan is the second person to be named Player of the Year in program history joining Jace Conrad who earned the honor in 2014. Trahan was the only player from the Sun Belt named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. The junior tied the school record with a 23-game hit streak and finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 in the conference in average (.332), on base percentage (.448), runs (45), hits (69), doubles (14), walks (34), hit by pitch (13) and stolen bases (15).

A first team selection, Trahan reached base in 33 straight games during the season and set a new school record with 10 assists in a game against UT Arlington. He was also named the No. 43 prospect by MLB.com.

The selection for Trahan is third of his career as he becomes only the third Louisiana player to be named all-conference three times along with pitchers Austin Robichaux and Hunter Moody since joining the Sun Belt in 1992.

Leger joins Trahan as the only Ragin' Cajuns players to be named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. A native of Lake Charles, La., Leger ranks top 10 in the league in ERA (2.90), innings pitched (87.0), strikeouts (70), wins (6), walks allowed (15) and starts (14). Leger is also 50th nationally in strikeout to walk ratio and 55th in walks allowed.

On the season, Leger has posted seven quality starts, while six of his seven quality starts have come in Sun Belt play. Leger has allowed just five earned runs in last 30 innings pitched and hasn't walked a batter in the last 35 innings. In 13 starts, Leger hasn't walked more than two hitters in an outing.

Trahan is joined by junior second baseman Stefan Trosclair on the All-Sun Belt First Team, while Leger is one of four Cajuns on the All-Sun Belt Second Team along with freshman reliever Dylan Moore, junior outfielder Kyle Clement and senior designated hitter Tyler Girouard.

The six selections is the most by any team on the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference Baseball teams with Troy earning four selections and league champion South Alabama receiving three honorees.

"I think the number of selections shows that the coaches in our league like the way that we play," Robichaux added. "That speaks well for our program. Hopefully we can collectively take theses players and win a championship."

Trosclair, a first team selection, ranks 29th nationally in home runs and 26th in slugging percentage. He also ranks top 10 in the conference average (.345), slugging (.646), on base percentage (.447), runs (61), RBI (40), home runs (13), total bases (115), hit by pitch (13) and stolen bases (10). Trosclair has had at least one hit in 32 of the last 37 contests, and 10 of his 13 homers have come in conference play. He also has had two different double-digit hit streaks on the year.

Girouard ranks top 10 in the Sun Belt in hitting (.333), on base percentage (.437), doubles (14) and walks (34). This is the second time that Girouard has been named to the All-Sun Belt teams as he earned second team honors in 2013. The senior is third on the squad in slugging (.463) and has posted 15 multi-hit efforts on the year and had a season-best four hits at Appalachian State.

Clement had a strong second half of the season playing his way on the second team as he now leads the squad with a .345 average. The junior ranks 20th in the nation in slugging percentage and is second on the team in home runs with eight. Clement became the first Cajuns player to hit for the cycle since 1990 and had a season-high four RBI against Jackson State on April 11. He was also named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week as well as a LSWA and Sun Belt POTW on April 28.

Moore ranks 47th in the nation in saves and 95th in appearances. He is second in the Sun Belt in saves with nine and is two away from tying the school record of 11 set by Matt Hicks in 2013. Moore already surpassed Reagan Bazar for the freshman saves record this season. The right-hander had a streak of seven straight appearances without allowing an earned run and has allowed an earned run in only seven of his 26 appearances. Moore has been strong down the stretch allowing just three runs in his last 17 appearances.
