Louisiana to face Troy in SBC quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday
JONESBORO, Ark. – Jasmine Hunt scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead five players in double figures and lift Arkansas State to an 87-65 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference women's basketball game on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
Louisiana (18-11, 10-10 SBC), which will be the No. 6 seed in next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament, will face third-seeded Troy (20-9, 15-5 SBC) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at New Orleans' Lakefront Arena.
Keke Veal scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures for Louisiana, which finished 26-for-66 (39.4 percent) from the floor and 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line. Gabby Alexander came off the bench to score 13 points while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds for the Ragin' Cajuns with Jaylyn Gordon adding 11 points.
Kia Wilridge scored 10 points with five steals and four assists for Louisiana while freshman Simone Fields scored 10 points on 5 of 7 shooting.
A-State, the No. 2 seed in the SBC Tournament and will face seventh-seeded Appalachian State at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, built a 46-32 lead at halftime and led 66-41 after Gamble hit a pair of free throws with 9:54 remaining.
Khadi Brown-Haywood scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Red Wolves, who finished 31-for-57 (54.4 percent) from the floor and 20-for-25 (80.0 percent) from the free throw line. Gamble added 14 points for A-State, Hanna Qedan 13 and Brittany Gill 12.
