LAFAYETTE – Recording three wins last week, including both of her team's wins in the Troy series, has landed Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball pitcher Christina Hamilton Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week accolades, the organization announced Monday.

Hamilton finished 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA, held opposing batters to 14 hits in 17-2/3 innings and registered 15 strikeouts over five appearances in series against Georgia Southern and Troy.

Last week's success extended her undefeated streak in Sun Belt starts to 19 games. The streak dates back to her true freshman season in 2011.

"When the bright lights come on, Christina finds a way to compete and give us her best," Louisiana softball head coach Michael Lotief said. "Her past successes and experience gives us confidence that she will bring her best."

In a key relief appearance in the Georgia Southern series opener, Hamilton bounced back after two inherited runners from a bases-loaded situation had scored to strand two Eagles in scoring position in the fifth inning and preserve a 4-2 lead.

The senior hurler helped the Cajuns earn a split in the Troy doubleheader on Saturday. After play resumed following a weather delay in the second inning of game two, Hamilton retired 18 of the 21 Troy batters faced – including retiring the side in order in three of the first four innings following resumption – and posted a season-high eight strikeouts in the 6-3 win.

On Sunday, she needed only 65 pitches to record a five-inning win over Troy that locked up the series victory. After a sacrifice bunt gave the Trojans a runner at second base with one out in the top of the first, Hamilton induced a pop up and collected a strikeout to post a zero. Her teammates responded with a seven-run at bat in the bottom half and the Cajuns cruised to a 12-2 win.

"I really think that the pitching circle is a place she feels free, and where she can be that little girl again competing and having fun," Lotief mentioned. "It's good to see her committed to her teammates and doing her pert to help us achieve our goals."

No. 7 Louisiana (25-4, 10-2 Sun Belt) travels to San Marcos, Texas, to meet Texas State in a Sun Belt series at Bobcat Softball Stadium for the first time. Games are scheduled for 1 p.m. (DH) on Saturday, March 28 and Noon on Sunday, March 29.
