Ragin' Cajuns Drop Sun Belt Contest At UTA, 56-42

Cajuns to resume action on Feb. 28 against Georgia Southern
ARLINGTON, Texas – Freshman Rebekah Van Dijk posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and UT Arlington used a 12-0 run to pull away and defeat the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team, 56-42, in a Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday at College Park Center.
Chaun Williams added 11 points and seven rebounds for UTA (15-10, 9-7 SBC) with Morgan Holly adding nine points and eight boards. Keke Veal scored 14 points to lead Louisiana (17-9, 9-8 SBC) with Robbie Brown adding nine and Jaylyn Gordon eight.
Gordon gave the Ragin' Cajuns an 18-17 lead when she buried a 3-pointer with 3:01 remaining in the first half before UTA closed out the half scoring the final eight points for a 25-18 lead at the break. Buckets by Van Dijk and Amara Wainwright pushed UTA's lead to 29-18 before the Ragin' Cajuns closed to within 29-25 after a bucket by Jodi Quinn with 14:31 remaining.
But the Mavs went on a 10-1 run that was capped by a jumper by Williams with 8:55 remaining for a 39-26 lead.
Louisiana finished 16-for-53 (30.2 percent) from the floor, 4-for-15 from behind the 3-point line and 6-for-13 from the free throw line. Veal and Kia Wilridge recorded three assists and three steals each for the Ragin' Cajuns with Wilridge and Simone Fields grabbing a team-high four rebounds.
UTA went 22-for-50 (44.0 percent) from the floor and held a 42-25 advantage on the glass. Toma Zaleckaite added eight points for the Mavs while Cierra Johnson recorded a game-high six assists.
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 28) when it plays host to Georgia Southern in a 5 p.m. contest at the Cajundome.
