LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team hosts Georgia State in the 2015 season finale on Friday, Nov. 13 at Earl K. Long Gym with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns are celebrating Senior Night and will honor seniors Katey Kyle and Sara Mossakowski at the conclusion of the match. There will also be a special tribute to the late Sawyer Camillo, who would have been celebrating her senior season as well.

For Louisiana volleyball head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot, Friday's match is about more than honoring seniors and closing out the season.

"It's about all of us," Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "It's about our seniors leaving and giving them one big hurrah, but it's also an opportunity to build some momentum going into the spring season.

"The last four matches we've played really good volleyball in three of the four," Mazeitis-Fontenot added. "We haven't won, but we're still improving. Now, can we take that momentum into the spring by having a great night on Friday."

Louisiana (5-23, 1-14 Sun Belt) and Georgia State (6-18, 2-12 Sun Belt) meet for the second time in the past two weeks. Friday's contest is a rematch of a 3-1 (22-25, 25-11, 26-24, 25-14) GSU win on Halloween in Atlanta.

The Panthers rebounded from an opening-set loss to claim the win in Atlanta, continuing a trend in which the home team has won all matchups in the series. The Ragin' Cajuns were in position for a 2-1 lead in the match holding a 24-22 lead in the third set, however the Panthers reeled off four straight points to steal the set.

Mossakowski enters her final match at E.K. Long Gym just 13 kills shy of reaching 800 in her career. The senior from Frisco, Texas, will finish her career in the Cajuns' rally scoring era career Top 10. She has averaged 2.25 kills per set over 73 sets this season.

Chanelle Gardner recently increased her career blocks total to 283, which places her third in the rally scoring era. The St. Martinville product is seven blocks shy of tying Mandi Gavin (290) for second place and is poised next season to join Kim Rodgers as the only Cajuns in the rally era to reach 300 career blocks.

Gardner presently leads the Ragin' Cajuns offense averaging 2.28 kills per set. She is coming off a strong showing last weekend against UT Arlington and Texas State, producing a combined 14 kills on 34 swings with a .324 hitting percentage.

Sydney Davis aims to put an exclamation point to a solid season serving as the Cajuns' libero. She leads all Sun Belt freshmen in total digs and is the only one to reach 300. League-wide, she is one of only 12 players with 300-plus digs.

Davis enters the GSU match on a string of nine straight matches reaching double digits in digs. The Baton Rouge native and St. Joseph's Academy product has collected double digit dig totals in 20 of 28 matches, overall. She scooped a career-high 27 digs against the Panthers on Halloween night.

As a team, Louisiana has displayed a stern defensive effort the last two weeks. Dating back to Oct. 30 at Appalachian State, the Ragin' Cajuns have averaged 15-plus digs per set in three of the last four matches.

Georgia State's offense is paced by the trio of Deidra Bohannon (3.02 kills/set), Kristina Stinson (2.95 kills/set) and Kitan Ajanaku (2.28 kills/set) who combined average 8.25 of the Panthers' 11.70 kills per set (70 percent). Stinson hit .400 and landed 21 kills on 45 swings during the earlier meeting in Atlanta.

Gabby Serafin tops GSU in digs with 471 total (4.91 digs/set) from the libero position. She piled up 25 digs against the Cajuns in Atlanta and has reached 20-plus digs 13 times this season. Bohannon is another force defensively for the Panthers, having posted 279 digs (3.17 digs/set) and 46 blocks (0.52 blocks/set).

Both teams were eliminated from contention for the Sun Belt Conference Championships being held in Statesboro, Ga., Nov. 20-22. It's the first time since 2011 that Louisiana will miss the event.

The Ragin' Cajuns aim to halt a 10-match losing streak which dates back to Oct. 10 at South Alabama. The Panthers, playing their first road match since Oct. 17 at Appalachian State, are winless on the road in Sun Belt action.

Louisiana begins its offseason after Friday's match. Georgia State travels to Monroe to end its season at ULM.
