FOR STARTERS
Louisiana opened up conference play on the right foot with an 83-79 overtime win at UALR on Tuesday, and now looks to kick off the 2015 calendar year on the same note when it hosts Troy in the Cajuns' home SBC opener on Saturday. The Cajuns have won each of their five home games at the Cajundome this year.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns led by as much as 14 points in the second half, but needed overtime to get past UALR, 83-79, on Tuesday at the Stephens Center in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.

Louisiana led 68-54 with 10:02 to play after a pair of free throws, but scored just one field goal for the remainder of regulation and the Trojans ended regulation on a 17-6 run, even holding a lead in the final two minutes.

Freshman Bryce Washington hit three free throws in the final 1:10 of regulation to tie things back up before the Trojans missed a three-point try at the regulation buzzer to send the game into extra time.

In overtime the Cajuns hit five of eight shots from the foul line and got two key buckets from freshman Johnathan Stove and Shawn Long, who finished with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Kasey Shepherd hit four of UL's eight threes on his way to a 20-point, five-assist night, and Washington turned in a big game off the bench, going for 11 points and eight rebounds. Devonta Walker turned in his second double-digit rebound effort in as many games with 11 boards.

UP NEXT
Saturday's game will kick off a stretch of three games in a five-day span for the Cajuns, following its meeting vs the Trojans with its first trip to Appalachian State since 1990 on Monday before returning home to face league favorite Georgia State on Jan. 8.

QUICK HITS
• Head coach Bob Marlin needs just two more wins to reach 300 career wins at the Division I level.

• The Ragin' Cajuns lost the battle in bench scoring against UALR, 38-25, marking the first time this season UL's bench has been outscored by its opponent.

• Shawn Long's 23 points and Kasey Shepherd's 20 gave UL a pair of 20-point scorers for the first time in the same game this year.

• Devonta Walker's 19 rebounds at Northwestern State is the second-most by a Sun Belt player in a single game this season and is the most by a Cajun since Long had 19 last year against Jackson State.

• UL's 83-79 overtime win at UALR was its first conference-opening road win since 2003-04.
