LAFAYETTE, La. – Support of Ragin' Cajuns baseball reached an all-time high in 2014 as Louisiana finished the season ranked in the top 10 nationally in both average and total attendance in the final 2014 Division I baseball attendance report.
Â
"This is another great honor for what this team has achieved this season," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "I know how important our fan base was to this team. We can't say enough about our fans and what they have done for us. They helped us get through a regional and have come out and supported us all season long. Our fans created an atmosphere that can't be replicated and made "the Tigue" a tough place for opponents to play."
Â
The Cajuns finished ninth in overall attendance setting a new school record for total attendance with 145,589 fans passing through the gates at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field this season.
Â
Louisiana also set a new program best for average attendance posting an average of 3,831 in 38 games. The 3,831 average ranks 10th nationally.
Â
"The last couple of weeks you saw what it meant to be a Ragin' Cajuns fan," Robichaux added. "Not only did we pack the "the Tigue", but we had probably just as many fans outside. I can't say enough about the support of our fans this season. The last two weeks showed the nation just how great our fans are."
Â
A total of 12,867 fans were in attendance for the Lafayette Super Regional with 4,295 at "the Tigue" for the deciding game. Two of the three attendance marks from the Lafayette Super Regional ranked in the top 10 attendances in M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field history.
