Magnus, Cajuns Back In Action At Old Waverly

WEST POINT, Miss. – Coming off of a first place finish at the Memphis Intercollegiate, sophomore Haraldur Magnus will look to lead the Ragin' Cajuns golf team to its eighth top 5 finish of the year and fifth of the spring as the squad tees off at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship hosted at the Old Waverly Golf Course starting on Monday.

"The forecast looks pretty tough," head coach Theo Sliman said. "Hopefully the guys will be ready for the challenge with the possibility of delays throughout the day. We have a great opportunity to get the guys to all pay solid golf together. We have had individual success from each of our golfers this year, but we haven't seen a complete team effort yet. This is a great chance for us to see everyone playing at their best in the same tournament."

Play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start. Two rounds will be played on the opening day, while Tuesday's final round will begin at 9 a.m. and will also be a shotgun start.

Austin Peay, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Florida, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, No. 37 Memphis, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, Troy and Wichita State make up the 15-team field.

The Ragin' Cajuns are paired with Southeastern Louisiana and Troy for the first day.

Freshman Fernando Cruz Valle leads the Cajuns with a 73.20 stroke average through 25 rounds. Magnus is second on the team with a 73.50 average.

Louisiana has had four players post top 10 finishes this season including three in the top 5.

Following the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship, the Ragin' Cajuns close out the regular season as they head to Madison, Miss. for the Reunion Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss from April 14-15.
