Louisiana Baseball Wins Tenth Consecutive Series Downing UALR

LAFAYETTE, La. – After posting a shutout last night, the top-ranked Louisiana baseball team recorded its tenth straight series win with a 5-2 victory over UALR on Saturday night in front of a season-best crowd of 4,439 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The Cajuns (33-4, 13-1 Sun Belt) posted 10-plus hits for the 26th time this season outhitting the Trojans (13-19, 3-11 Sun Belt) 10-5 in the contest.

Both Blake Trahan and Dylan Butler had two hits in the game, while Tyler Girouard had a game-high two RBI and scored two runs. Butler is now in the series is now 4-for-4 in the series with a double after going 2-for-2 off of the bench.

"Our thing is just to keep coming," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "It epitomizes us with Butler going into the wall last night and then coming back out today and doing what he did. Winning weekend series is what we want to do. It's so hard to be consistent, and that's the maturity of this team, being able to be consistent. We want to be able to be better than your opponent two out of three nights, because that is what a super regional entails."

Senior Ryan Wilson moved to a perfect 5-0 on the year holding UALR to just one unearned run in five innings scattering four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Greg Milhorn was strong in relief also giving up only one unearned run in four innings to earn his first career save. Milhorn allowed just one hit and had one strikeout.

UALR's Sam Thoele fell to 0-2 in his third start of the year. Thoele gave up five runs on seven hits in five innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

Louisiana struck first in the bottom of the second when Chase Compton brought home Girouard from third on a sac fly to right to take a 1-0 lead. Girouard walked to lead off the inning and then moved to second on a Caleb Adams bunt single before stealing third.

The Ragin' Cajuns tacked on another run in the bottom of the third on a single through the right side of the infield by Jace Conrad scoring Nick Thurman. The run gives Conrad a team-best 40 RBI this season.

The Trojans got on the board in the top of the fifth as Bryson Thionnet scored on a throwing error by Wilson to cut the advantage to 2-1.

The Cajuns picked up three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1. Thoele hit Trahan to start the inning and then walked Ryan Leonards in the next at bat. Following a Conrad sac bunt, Girouard drove a single into left center to plate both Trahan and Leonards. Girouard then stole second and came around to score on a single to left center by Seth Harrison. The single by Harrison increases his hit streak to 12 games as he has reached base no in 23 straight contests.

UALR plated the final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Drew Merten scored on a Trahan error.

Milhorn went on to retire the last seven batters he faced to close out the contest and give the Cajuns the series win.

"Tomorrow we are playing with house money," Robichaux added. "Hopefully Boutte can come in tomorrow and give us another quality start and eat up some innings."

Louisiana goes for the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the series finale with the Trojans at "the Tigue". Senior left-hander Cody Boutte is set to make the start for the Ragin' Cajuns and will face right-hander Cameron Allen.

Adams and Conrad each carry on base streaks into the game as Adams has reached in 31 straight while Conrad has reached in the last 27 contests.
