SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ayriel Anderson came off the bench to score 18 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:20 remaining, and Texas State made nine free throws in the final half-minute to earn a hard-fought 70-64 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.

Kaylan Martin added 18 points for Texas State (10-11, 7-3 SBC), going 14-for-15 from the free throw line for the game, including six in the final 30 seconds.

Texas State led, 43-33, on a pair of Ashley Ezeh free throws with 17:13 remaining in the game before Louisiana (10-12, 3-8 SBC) went on a 9-0 run over the next 3:34. Freshman Gabby Alexander, who scored a season-high 15 points, scored six points in the run with Sylvana Okde adding a layup and Brooklyn Arceneaux a free throw.

Trailing 54-51, the Ragin' Cajuns scored six straight points as Robbie Brown tipped a missed shot and Alexander followed with a pair of buckets for a 57-54 lead with 4:49 left. But Texas State would get buckets from Kileah Mays and Meghan Braeuer that would eventually tie the game at 58-58, before Anderson's eventual go-ahead basket.

Jaylyn Gordon, who came off the bench to score 15 points, added a layup with 22 seconds left before her 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining cut the lead to 65-64. But the Bobcats put the game away hitting five free throws with Anderson making one of two with Erin Peoples and Martin sank two apiece.

A jumper by Jacqueline Jeffcoat gave Texas State a 25-21 lead before the Ragin' Cajuns would answer with a 6-2 run to force a 27-27 deadlock.

Kia Wilridge hit a short jumper for the Cajuns before Arceneaux scored on a tough jumper in the lane to tie the contest at 25-25. After a pair of free throws by Martin gave the Bobcats a 27-25 lead, Louisiana tied the game for the fifth time in the first half when Braile Fields scored on a layup with 3:17 remaining in the half.

But Texas State would close out the half on an 8-2 run as Anderson broke the tie with a 14-foot jumper before a three-point play by Martin and free throws by Mays and Braeuer gave the Bobcats a 35-27 lead.

Arceneaux scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Louisiana, which finished 23-for-65 (35.4 percent) from the floor and 15-for-23 (65.2 percent). Ezeh added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Texas State while Mays grabbed 16 boards as the Bobcats held a 46-39 advantage.

Louisiana will return to action on Wednesday when it plays host to UALR in a 5 p.m. contest at the Cajundome.
