Game Notes
Setting the Scene: The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team looks to snap a seven-game losing streak as it returns home to the Cajundome for a trio of Sun Belt games, opening with UALR on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Cajuns have been led by sophomores Sylvana Okde and Brooklyn Arceneaux. Okde leads the team with 11.2 points per game and Arceneaux averages 9.3. Arceneaux found her stride in conference play, averaging 12.5 points in Sun Belt games, also grabbing a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game. Â
About the Opponent: UALR boasts the top scoring defense in the conference, holding opponents to 57.5 points per game, despite scoring a league-low 58.0. The Trojans are led by Taylor Gault (15.1 ppg) and Kiera Clark (10.1 ppg/6.6 RBG). Gault is coming off of a 22-point effort against WKU in the Trojans' 58-51 win, and scored double figures against the Cajuns in the first meeting, along with Taylor Ford, Shardé Collins and Shanity James.
No Sleep For Brooklyn: Sophomore Brooklyn Arceneaux has found her stride in the wake of Keke Veal's injury, posting double-digit points in seven of the last ten games. She posted her first career double-double, scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds against Troy (11/18/14), and added a pair of career-high 19-point games against South Alabama (1/15/13) and UALR (1/29/14). Arceneaux is averaging 12.5 points and 6.7 rebounds in conference play.
Avoiding the Turnover: The Cajuns have forced the most turnovers per game among all Sun Belt teams at 22.6, while turning the ball over an average of 16.2 times, the third-least in the Sun Belt, for a conference best +6.32 turnover margin. That would be the 11th best margin in the NCAA.
Century Mark for Okde: Sophomore guard Sylvana Okde hit 74 3-pointers as a freshman in 2012-13 and has made 52 so far this season, becoming the eighth player in school history to reach 100 career triples. Two players have reached the 200-mark, with Rhonda McCullough (1987-90) holding the school record with 260, and Kim Perrot (1986-90) with 202. Perrot achieved that feat despite the 3-point shot being nonexistent in her first season with the Ragin' Cajuns. She currently ranks sixth all-time at Louisiana in 3-pointers made with 126 career triples, behind Onna Charles (2005-08) with 143.
Shades of 2006-07: The Ragin' Cajuns posted a four-game winning streak beginning with a Dec. 14 victory against New Orleans through the Sun Belt Conference opener at ULM on Jan. 4. The win against ULM marked the longest winning streak and first time the Cajuns have won their conference opener since the 2006-07 season. The Cajuns won seven straight games from Jan. 3-25, 2007, all Sun Belt match ups.  The Cajuns earned a bid to the NCAA tournament in 2007, falling to Marquette in the opening round.
Double-Double2: The Cajuns have four double-doubles on the season, with two by Jasmin Mills, and one each from Brooklyn Arceneaux and Kia Wilridge. The double-doubles have come in groups, with Mills' coming in back-to-back games, and Wilridge and Arceneaux's also coming in back-to-back games. Mills scored 20 points with 11 rebounds against Nebraska Omaha (11/8/13) and followed that with 16 points and 11 rebounds against SUNO (11/11/13). Wilridge scored 11 points with 11 boards against South Alabama (1/15/14), and Arceneaux scored 18 points with 11 rebounds against Troy (11/18/14).
What's Next? The Ragin' Cajuns stay home, for two more games, taking on Arkansas State, the only team they have yet to play on Feb. 15 at 5 p.m., and Troy on Feb. 19 with a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Cajuns will have just one home game after this three game stretch, when they return home on March 2 for a 5:15 tipoff against South Alabama.
Game Day Story Lines
• Sophomore Brooklyn Arceneaux, the Cajuns' third-leading scorer (9.3) on the season, is averaging 12.5 points per game and a team-high 6.7 rebounds in Sun Belt Conference action.
• In the previous meeting between the schools, the Trojans defeated the Cajuns 74-60 at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Ark. Arceneaux led all Cajuns scorers with 19 points, also grabbing seven rebounds, and Sylvana Okde scored 14 points of her own. Taylor Gault and Taylor Ford led the Trojans, scoring 22 and 15 points respectively. Â
• Louisiana enters the game with a 6-5 record at home and a 5-5 record at the Cajundome. They are looking to snap a three-game home losing streak, after opening the season 6-2 at home. They are also one win away from surpassing their win total from 2012-13.
