Cajuns Golf Holds Position At Bayou City Championship

HOUSTON, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team held its position in 14th place after the second round on Saturday at the 2014 Bayou City Collegiate Championships held at The Golf Club of Houston.

"I am really surprised with the way we showed up and performed today," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This team is way better than the way they played, and each of the guys need to expect more out of themselves."

Louisiana carded a second round score of 11-over par (299) to finish the day with an overall score of 18-over (594).

15th ranked Houston remains in the lead after day two at 19-under (557) after shooting an impressive 11-under (277) as a team. No. 21 Texas (-10, 566), No. 29 South Carolina (-5, 571), No. 19 Arkansas (-3, 573) and No. 31 Baylor (-2, 574) round out the top 5 teams heading into the final day of competition.

Houston's Welsey McClain continues to sit atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under (137).

Christian Verrougstraete and Fernando Cruz Valle find themselves in a tie for 50th at 4-over (148) headed into final round. Ross Davis and Thomas Strandemo are two strokes back in a tie for 61st at 6-over (150), while Haraldur Magnus is in a tie for 69th at 7-over (151).

"Once again, we have a great opportunity tomorrow to put together a solid round and move up a very competitive leaderboard." Sliman added. "I have the utmost confidence in these guys, and I believe that we have learned a lot. Hopefully we can apply our knowledge to tomorrow's performance."

The Cajuns once again will be paired with Houston Baptist and Lamar for the final round with a 9 a.m. shotgun start scheduled. After the conclusion of the final round, Louisiana will head to the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, La. from March 3-4.
