FOR STARTERS
Louisiana opens up a stretch of four of five games at home on Wednesday when they host Jackson State after four consecutive games on the road. The Cajuns will be looking to avenge a 73-70 loss to the Tigers in Jackson a year ago, while moving their record back to even before three straight matchups with in-state opponents.
TOYS FOR TOTS
Wednesday's game will also serve as a chance for fans to support local area youth as part of the Toys For Tots initiative. SAAC members from Ragin' Cajuns Athletics will be on hand accepting new and unused toys to be donated to local area children during the holiday season.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Kasey Shepherd tied his career high with 22 points and the Ragin' Cajuns rolled to a dominating 76-52 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday in its final game of the MGM Grand Main Event at the MGM Grand.
Shepherd filled up the stat line with 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while also hitting four threes. He was one of four Cajuns (2-3) to reach double figures on the night, with UL finished with 10 players in the scoring column.
Additionally, the Cajuns finished the night shooting 51.8 percent from the field for the night, while moving to 5-2 all-time against ORU (1-3).
Louisiana led by as much as 27 points in the second half, hitting nearly 60 percent from the field. Devonta Walker scored all 13 of his points in the second period, including five in a 13-6 run at the midway point of the half that pushed UL's lead over 20 points for the first time.
The Cajuns were even better defensively, holding ORU to just 7-for-34 (20.6 percent) shooting in the second half and 26.8 percent for the game.
UP NEXT
The Ragin' Cajuns will will travel away from the Cajundome just once before opening up conference play at UALR on Dec. 30, with that lone trip coming on Saturday in an evening game at McNeese State.
• UL's bench is outscoring its opponent 35.8-15.0 per game.
• The Cajuns started two true freshmen against Milwaukee - Johnathan Stove and Bryce Washington - marking the first time UL has had two true freshmen in the starting lineup since Kasey Shepherd and Steven Wronkoski started against Middle Tennessee on January 19, 2013.
• UL will be looking to snap a modest two-game losing streak vs SWAC opponents, both on the road. The Cajuns have an 11-game home win streak vs the SWAC dating back to the 1988-89 season. The last win by a SWAC team in Lafayette was a 103-88 win by Southern on Dec. 17, 1988.
• UL is 18-6 in home non-conference games under head coach Bob Marlin, including having won each of its last eight.
