LAFAYETTE, La. – For the first time this fall, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team will travel away from the friendly confines of Lamson Park to take on Florida State in a Sunday doubleheader that is set to begin at 2 p.m. from the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Miss.
Â
Last season, the Seminoles joined Louisiana at the Women's College World Series after capturing both the ACC regular season and tournament titles. In postseason play, Florida State defeated Fordham, USF and Michigan to reach its eighth WCWS. The Seminoles suffered losses to Oregon and Baylor in Oklahoma City to finish the season 55-9.
Â
Louisiana is coming off a 49-10-1 season in 2014, sweeping the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles and advancing to its sixth WCWS series. The Cajuns return 22 letterwinners and seven starters for the 2015 season including five all-Sun Belt selections (Christina Hamilton, Lexie Elkins, Haley Hayden, Shellie Landry, Kelsey Vincent) and two NFCA All-Americans (Hamilton, Elkins).
Â
The Cajuns will wrap up their fall schedule Sunday, Nov. 9 with an Alumni Game at Lamson Park. A game time has yet to be determined.
