Louisiana Golf Continues Fall Season At David Toms Intercollegiate

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun golf team continues its fall season this weekend as the Cajuns head to the David Toms Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,663-yard University Club.

"The five guys that are representing the team have a great opportunity to redeem themselves from our showing last week at New Mexico," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We need to learn and apply from our from that outing and prove that we are a contender for the postseason. This is a great event at a good course, and we will be up against some in-state rivals. I know the guys are ready and excited about the chance to get back out on the course and show what they are made of."

Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on both days with a shotgun start. The first and second rounds are slated to take place on Saturday, while the third and final round is set for Sunday.

Central Arkansas, No. 38 Iowa, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, host No. 4 LSU, Mercer, North Texas, Rice, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi and No. 34 Winthrop make up the 12-team field at the David Toms Intercollegiate.

Louisiana is coming off of a 15th place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate a week ago after placing in the top 3 in its first two events.

The Ragin' Cajuns will start Louis Kelly, Haraldur Magnus, Fernando Cruz Valle, Thomas Strandemo and Ross Davis at the event, while Paul San and Joseph Burgess will compete as individuals. Burgess is making his first collegiate appearance for the Cajuns.

The Cajuns finished fourth at the David Toms a year ago led by Cruz Valle who finished in a tie for third at 1-under (215).

"Both Paul and Joseph have a great chance to showcase their abilities this weekend," Sliman added. "I expect them to make the most of their opportunity as well as the guys in the starting lineup."
