Camillo, Sawyer 2012
LAFAYETTE – Seven student-athletes of the Ragin' Cajun athletic program have been nominated for the inaugural Sawyer Camillo Memorial Award in an announcement by the University on Friday.

Nominated for the award are: Elfrid Payton (men's basketball), Damian Farinola (men's tennis), Matt Hicks (baseball), Andre' Huval (football), Kaylee Nemeth (volleyball), Sylvana Okde (women's basketball) and Jordan Wallace (softball).

The winner of the award will be announced at the school's Welcome Back Convocation on Sept. 16. A perpetual trophy will be displayed in the Cox Communications Athletic Center.

The objective is to recognize one student-athlete that embodies the highest qualities of being an all-around team player and carries the legacy of Camillo, a Louisiana freshman volleyball player who tragically passed away at her home on Dec. 22, 2012.

The award is based on leadership, sportsmanship, community service, citizenship and academic excellence. All nominees must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate significant support for all Ragin' Cajun teams, hold a leadership role and exhibit a positive attitude at each practice and game, and show involvement in community service throughout the local community.
