De Groot and Wynan Garner All-Sun Belt Honors

LAFAYETTE, La. – Junior Rick de Groot and freshman Jake Wynan were named to the 2013 All-Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday evening at a banquet held a Cajun Courts.
De Groot was one of four singles players to earn All-Sun Belt First Team singles honors, while the duo of Wynan and de Groot were tabbed to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in doubles.
“Rick has many wins this year over top 125 ranked opponents nationally,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “He is a force to be reckoned with in the Sun Belt. He is very deserving of both the single and doubles awards.”
The junior leads the squad with a 14-9 record in singles including wins over nationally ranked Rui Silva of UNO, 6-1, 6-2, regionally ranked Idan Mark of Tulane, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.
In doubles, de Groot and Wynan have been strong pacing a Ragin' Cajuns team that has a .690 winning percentage. Wynan and de Groot currently hold a 13-7 record and are 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents topping the duo of Zac Dunkle and Garrison Laduca of Samford, 8-3.
“Jake and Rick have seen their chemistry develop from the beginning to where we are today,” Jeffrey noted. “They both have worked hard together to achieve elite status in doubles in the Sun Belt Conference.”
The Cajuns (14-11) return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. as they face Florida Atlantic in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships at Cajun Courts. For info and updates on men's tennis follow the team on twitter @CajunMensTennis.
