Cajuns Fall To Troy At Home, 4-0

LAFAYETTE, La. – After a strong performance against Arkansas State a day ago, the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team stumbled against Troy falling 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cajun Courts.

“Today we played a team that was really hot and that is playing as well as any team in the conference,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “We weren't mentally ready for that. It's good that we have now seen the best of the best. Today was a good experience for us. We built this weekend as a preview of the conference championships and I feel it's been a good test so far.

“We are glad a loss like this happened now and not at the conference championships. I give a lot of credit to Troy. They came prepared for this match and didn't let up. We have to learn how to get in points and stay in points as a team. We had a little bit of a letdown early, and that's all it takes in a match like this.”

The Cajuns (12-9) dropped the doubles point as the Trojans won on courts two and three. Troy clinched the point at the No.3 position as Candela Munoz Giron and Anja Cosovic defeated Bailey VanDyke and Sandra Ahlqvist 8-5.

In singles competition, Troy grabbed three quick points winning at lines one, three and five. Karoline Grymel clinched the match for the Trojans on court one topping Sophie van den Aarssen, 6-3, 6-1.

Louisiana returns to action tomorrow at noon as they close out the weekend with South Alabama at Cajun Courts. The match was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. but was moved due to the threat of rain.

“We have another tough match tomorrow so we need to come prepared to face South Alabama,” Harkins added. “This is what we want. The key is how we adjust when we come back out tomorrow.”
