Men's Tennis Falls To Tulane In Close Contest, 4-3

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team dropped its first home match of the season as Louisiana fell to Tulane 4-3 at Cajun Courts on Saturday afternoon.
"It was another tough match today," assistant coach Jeff Johnson said. "We came out battling and we thought we had the momentum because it was a home match, but once again we let another close match slip away from us. If we pull out those 4-3 matches we could have been 15-2 on the year. We are so close to being an amazing team, but it comes down to one or two things. We are a young team, but we are going to figure it out."
The Cajuns (9-8) dropped the doubles point as Tulane (9-4) picked up wins on courts one and three. Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan had the lone doubles win for Louisiana besting the duo of Rodrigo Rappaccioli and Alex Van Cott 8-4.
In singles play, the Green Wave extended their lead to 2-0 after a victory at the No. 2 position.
Freshman Hunter Johnson pulled the Cajuns within a point after defeating Rodrigo Rappaccioli 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 on court four. Johnson became the first Ragin' Cajun to post 10 wins in the spring season.
Tulane moved one point away from clinching with a win at No.6 singles, but Damian Farinola answered tabbing a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 decision over Alex Van Cott.
The Green Wave clinched the match on court three as Edgar Lopez fell to Joe Young, 6-4, 1=6, 7-5.
Louisiana picked up the final point of the match at the No.1 position as de Groot topped Idan Mark in three sets, 6-01, 5-7, 6-3. The win marks the tenth of the season for de Groot.
The Ragin' Cajuns return to action on Monday at 3 p.m. when they host No.61 Samford at Cajun Courts. Admission to the match is free. For info and updates on men's tennis follow the team on twitter @CajunMensTennis.
