Ragin' Cajuns Return Home To Face ULM In Sun Belt Volleyball

Louisiana has won eight of last 10 in series with in-state rival



LAFAYETTE – After playing their last nine matches on the road, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team returns home on Wednesday when it plays host to ULM in a Sun Belt Conference contest at Earl K. Long Gym.

Louisiana (10-6, 0-2 Sun Belt), which has dropped its last three matches, last played on its home court on Sept. 7 when it concluded play in the inaugural Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic. The Ragin' Cajuns spent the next three weekends on the road competing in tournaments at Georgia (Sept. 13-14) and Ole Miss (Sept. 20-21) before opening Sun Belt action at Texas State and UT Arlington.

The Ragin' Cajuns enter the match with ULM (4-14, 0-2 Sun Belt) leading the Sun Belt Conference in service aces per set (1.47) and second in digs (14.84). In the 10-team league, Louisiana is holding opponents to a .156 attack percentage – the third lowest in the SBC – and are fourth in attack percentage (.223), assists (11.49) and kills (12.36).

Senior Lavinia Tataran leads Louisiana's balanced offensive attack with 2.89 kills per set and is followed by Sara Mossakowski (2.55), Kaylee Nemeth (2.08) and Tonice White (2.04). Andrea Hole is averaging a team-high 9.98 assists per set, third in the Sun Belt Conference, while Caitlyn Auxilien is sixth among league players in digs (4.16).

Freshman Chanelle Gardner paces Louisiana in both attack percentage (.292) and blocks (1.02) while Mossakowski (0.37/set), Taylor Meade (0.35/set) and Hole (0.30/set) are ranked among the league leaders in service aces.

ULM has played its last 14 matches on the road since a three-set loss to Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 2. The Warhawks, who have dropped four consecutive matches, have played 17 of their 18 contests away from home including losses last week at UT Arlington and Texas State.

Freshman Hadley Swartz is the leading hitter for ULM averaging 2.37 kills per set with Blanca Ocana next at 2.14. Swartz paces the Warhawks in aces (0.27/set), ranking 10th among Sun Belt players while ranking second on the team behind Sun Belt leader Marcela Araya (4.40/set) in digs.

Louisiana leads the all-time series between the in-state rivals, 39-19, and swept the home-and-home series in 2012.

After facing ULM, the Ragin' Cajuns will return to the road for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches. Louisiana will visit Troy on Friday (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m. before facing Arkansas State on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 1.
