COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in Colorado this weekend after a 7-0 defeat at Denver on Friday and a 6-1 loss against Air Force on Saturday.

“This was a new environment for us as we were both indoors and at a high elevation,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “The girls made the adjustments after our first match, but we were still unable to come away with a win. Both Denver and Air Force are very experienced and talented teams and I give them a lot of credit.

“This will be a valuable learning experience for our team. We are going to get back to work on Monday and continue to practice hard and get better. I'm excited about the future of this young team.”

The Cajuns had their best success of the weekend against the Falcons. In doubles, Louisiana took two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest.

Nicole Breaux and Bailey VanDyke defeated Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake 8-7 (7-4) in a hard fought match at No.1 doubles. At No.3 doubles, Melissa Burckhartt and Juliette Clement teamed up to beat Anastasia Hueffner and Marcelli Magday 8-3.

Sophie van den Aarssen and Sandra Ahlqvist came up just short of pulling out the sweep after falling in a super-tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4), to Christine Molina and Natasha Rizvi.

“After our match against Denver we made some changes to the doubles lineup and it really paid off for us,” Harkins added.

Air Force would sweep singles play despite the efforts of  VanDyke and Hanna Appleyard to force a third set.

Louisiana continues its six-match road swing on Feb. 10 when the Cajuns head to Edinburg, Texas to face UT-Pan American.
