Cajuns Finish In 11th At Golfweek Conference Challenge

BURLINGTON, Iowa – A final round score of 23-over par (311) saw the Ragin' Cajuns golf team finish in a tie for 11th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

“The conditions here can expose the weakness in your golf game and we let that get to us today,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “We are usually a mentally tough team, but unfortunately the results show that we weren't today. I take full responsibility. The good thing is we can learn from this and use the time off that we have to refocus.”

Missouri was the wire-to-wire team champion finishing with a score of seven-under par (857). The Tigers were the lone team at the Golfweek Conference Challenge to post a score under par.

Wake Forest (865, +1), Tulsa (867, +3), Iowa (877, +13) and Ball State (878, +14) round out the top five finishers.

Jace Long of Missouri was the individual medalist after carding a three-round total of nine-under par (207).

Louisiana's Yohann Vora finished in a tie for 24th at seven-over par (223) as the senior posted a 78 in his final round.

Senior Brandt Garon was two strokes back of Vora in a tie for 31st at nine-over par (225), while Ethan Savoy placed in a tie for 49th at 14-over par (230).

Freshmen Thomas Strandemo and Ross Davis closed out the scoring for the Cajuns as Strandemo finished in a tie for 53rd at 15-over par (231) and Davis placed in a tie for 57th at 16-over par (232).

Louisiana returns to action in a little under three weeks when the squad travels east on I-10 to Baton Rouge, La. for the David Toms Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-7 at the University Club.
