BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team closed out the David Toms Intercollegiate with a final round score of 31-over par (319) to finish in eighth at the University Clun on a cold and windy Sunday in Baton Rouge, La.

“This was a tough week for the team,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “When you look at how good the field was and the scores that were posted, you know this was a difficult course. This style of course can expose a player's weaknesses, and when the leading team is 20-over par it shows just how challenging this tournament was. We know that we are better than our results indicate, and I was glad to see a lot more fight from our guys today.”

With only four rounds being posted under par on Saturday, the course proved to be even tougher to navigate on Sunday as all 53 golfers posted a round over par.

No.16 LSU held on to win the team championship with 54-hole score of 33-over par (897). South Alabama (+41, 905), No.41 Tulsa (+47, 911), Mississippi State (+54, 918) and Louisiana Tech (+56, 317) rounded out the top five teams.

The Cajuns finished the tournament with a three-round score of 92-over (956).

LSU's Andrew Presley captured the individual medalist honors carding a score of four-over par (220).

Senior Brandt Garon was the top finisher for Louisiana placing in a tie for 13th after posting a 54-hole score of 12-over (228).

“To finish tied for 13th in this field is an accomplishment,” Sliman added. “The important thing to note is that we didn't see Brandt's best effort this weekend and he was still able to gut out a good finish. That only means good things for him down the road if he can put it all together.”

Yohann Vora placed in the top 25 for the third straight tournament as he finished in a tie for 24th at 18-over par (234).

Kelsey Angelle ended up in a tie for 46th at 29-over, while Peter Lamaris and Christian Verrougstrate finished in a tie for 51st at 38-over.

Freshman Thomas Strandemo had a good showing as an individual placing in a tie for 28th at 20-over par (236). Strandemo was the only Cajun on the weekend to post all three rounds in the 70s.

“Our team knows that we have some work to do to get better,” Sliman noted. “We are going through a tough time right now, but I am confident that this team is good enough to win the Sun Belt. This weekend opened our eyes and showed us what we have to do to get better so that we can make it back here when LSU hosts the NCAA regional in the spring.”

UL is slated to close out the fall season on Oct. 19-20 when the Cajuns head to Raliegh, N.C. for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
