THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team overcame a sluggish start on Monday to finish the day at four-over par (580) and only six strokes back from the top 5 of the All-American Intercollegiate at TPC Woodlands.

“I'm very proud of this team,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “We struggled coming out of the gates in the first nine holes, but the team rallied back and fought hard. I think our best golf is still ahead of us tomorrow.”

UL currently sits in 10th place behind Tulsa (579), No.27 Baylor (576) and Southeastern La. (576).

Junior Brandt Garon again finds himself as the Cajuns top performer after day one as he is in a tie for 10th place at three-under par (141). Garon fired a career low 69 in his second round to move into the top10.

Andrew Noto is in a tie for 33rd at one-over par (145), while Chris Weninger sits just one stroke behind the senior at two-over par (146).

Yohann Vora rounds out the scoring for Louisiana at four-over par (148). The junior bounced back after a 40 on his first nine holes to post a 72 in the afternoon round.

“I'm very proud of Yohann to bounce back and shoot as well as he did today,” Sliman noted. “Brandt has also been doing some good things for us with his first round in the 60s as a Cajun. It's not just the numbers that make me proud of him, but also the way he has been able to stay mentally focused and close out rounds.”

No.10 Arkansas leads the field after carding a two-round score of 12-under par (556). No.32 North Texas (560), No.14 Texas A&M (562), No.44 SMU (571) and Houston (574) round out the top 5. The Aggies' Geoff Shaw leads the All-American Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of eight-under par (136).

“We have a great opportunity tomorrow,” Sliman said. “It's a tight leaderboard so there is definitely some ground to be made up. Our goal is to finish in the top 5 tomorrow. This field is very similar to what a regional field will be like. I know we are good enough to be a regional team so this will be a great preview for us.”

The final round of the All-American Intercollegiate is slated to start at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. Follow live scoring of the third round online at Golfstat.com.
