LAFAYETTE, La. – The seventh ranked Ragin' Cajuns softball team hit three homeruns and received another strong effort from their pitching staff as they finished off a sweep of Florida Atlantic, 9-1, on Sunday at Lamson Park.

Every UL starter in the batting lineup recorded a hit in the contest for just the second time this season. Matte Haack was the only player to have a multi-hit game, finishing 3-for-4, with an RBI and a run scored.

“I think when you are able to compete at the plate it gives you more opportunities for success,” co-head coach Michael Lotief said. “What impresses me about this group is that they keep grinding. We know someone in the lineup is going to come through for us.”

Christi Orgeron gave the Cajuns (41-2, 16-2) an early 2-0 lead as she tagged a 2-2 offering from FAU hurler, Paige Pender, for a two-run blast to left center, giving her a team-leading 18 homeruns on the year. The homerun increased her career total to 66, tying her with former UL slugger Gabriele Bridges for third on the school's all-time list.

The senior leads the nation with 83 RBI this season and is sixth on the NCAA career RBI list with 277. She is needs to drive in just 17 more runs to move into sole possession of fifth place.

Ashley Brignac (17-2) pitched four innings of work and struck out three. The River Ridge, La. native sits at 799 career strikeouts and is seeking to become just the fourth UL pitcher to record 800 strikeouts in her career.

Florida Atlantic (13-32, 3-13) scored their lone run on a bloop single off the bat of Alexa Ballard, plating Jordan Stovall to cut the Louisiana lead to 2-1.

UL responded for two more runs in the bottom half as Erikka Murphy scored on a passed ball and Nerissa Myers launched her 10th long ball of the year to left field for a 4-1 lead.

Paige Cormier hit the third blast for the Cajuns, with a three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to give Louisiana a six-run cushion. The homerun gave the senior her eighth of the season and snapped a 27 game homer-less drought. Her last one came back on March 4, against Stephen F. Austin.

UL walked off with a mercy rule win in the bottom of the sixth as Haack drove in Myers, with a single to left field, and a fly ball off the bat of Draheim was dropped by the left fielder Alison Milam, which scored Orgeron for the 9-1 victory.

Jordan Wallace picked up her first save of her young career, firing two innings of scoreless relief and fanning three.

Louisiana returns to the field next weekend as they will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for a three game series at Western Kentucky, April 28-29.
