Middle Tennessee Knocks Cajuns from SBC Tennis Championships

DENTON, Texas – The 70th ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team saw its 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championship bid come to an end on Saturday as UL was swept by Middle Tennessee, 4-0, in the semifinals at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.
“Middle Tennessee was the better team today and deserved the victory,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “Hats off to them. They took advantage of their opportunities, and we didn't do the same when we had them. They were just better today, and I wish them well in the finals.
“The guys battled hard all season long and made big strides for Cajun men's tennis. Our program has a lot to look forward to. I can't wait to get the new guys in, and get after it come the fall season. I just want to thank coach Greg Harkins who was tremendous for us. Also our trainer Christian Croteau and manager Robert Voss did a great job all year long.”
With the loss, the Cajuns drop to 15-8 on the season and 2-1 against teams from the Sun Belt.
Despite an 8-5 doubles win by Carlin Murray and Rick DeGroot on court one, the Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point with wins at No.2 and No.3 doubles.
Middle Tennessee got out to a 2-0 edge after Ben Davis topped DeGroot 6-2, 6-3 on court one.
At No.3 singles, Chris Lang defeated senior Yanick Mandl 6-0, 6-4 to bring the Blue Raiders within a point from clinching the match.
Matthew Langley closed out the contest with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Murray on court two.
