A total of 16 teams will compete, which includes seven players currently ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national preseason rankings. In addition, three freshmen are ranked among the ITA's Top 10 rookies.
"The only way to know where you are is to play the best you possibly can, and a tournament of this caliber enables our team to do that," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Baylor has one of the Top 5 programs in the country and attracts five of the Top 35 teams nationally to this tournament. We feel like we are ready to see where we are."
Teams participating include: Arizona, Baylor, Fresno State, Iowa, Louisiana, Laredo CC, Maryland, Midwestern State, New Mexico State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Portland, Rice, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio and Texas-Pan American.
The tournament will consist of one 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket. Action will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday and continue throughout the weekend.
Seniors Yanick Mandl and Carlin Murray look to lead the Cajuns into this weekend's play. Both had strong fall seasons a year ago, as Murray advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional and Mandl won the Flight A bracket of the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.
Following the Baylor-HEB Invitational, the Cajuns travel to Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 30 to participate in the All-American Championships which is recognized as the most prestigious tournament on the fall schedule.
